What is GoodSync?

GoodSync for Business provides complete enterprise data backup and synchronization across data sources, destinations, and systems. The GoodSync for Business Control Center is specifically designed to minimize user interaction and increase management control by deploying pre-created GoodSync backup and synchronization jobs to GoodSync for Business Workstations and GoodSync for Business Servers, and enabling an administrator to monitor performance from a centralized location.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use GoodSync for personal clients' selective data transfers and light data recovery cases. Last use was for a data transfer from a NAS device the clients lost the password to.

Pros

  • Cloud to endpoint transfers
  • Network data transfers
  • Folder/directory transfers with complex structure
  • Data transfers with de-duplication

Cons

  • For what it is, I can't find any shortcomings.

Return on Investment

  • I use the workstation version. It is my go-to for manual data transfers.
  • When I want to the most precise one or two-way transfer, GoodSync is what I use.

Alternatives Considered

Dropbox, Google Drive and ownCloud

GoodSync is one of the best SW for backing up and Synchronizing drives

  • easily identifies files that have been moved
  • identifies deleted files and prompts user if there are conflicts

  • GUI can be improved
  • performance - mainly speed but this can be a function of the drive

Pros

  • Quickly analyzes the drives and compares files and dates to give a complete picture
  • Gives you complete control over what to do with files that are similar but my not be matching. (same name, different size or date)

Cons

  • I don't really have any cons

Return on Investment

  • This has saved many hours of work because occasionally the flash drives die, break, fail or get left behind somewhere. The time to get all the files and software back in working order would take a day or two. By keeping several of them identical with GoodSync, work goes on without missing a beat.

Pros

  • The moving of files in one shot between computer.
  • You can sync with other storage devices or computers
  • You can also use it to backup files.

Cons

  • Can't sync to Sharepoint 2016 at this time. Which is a problem since we are on 2016 already.

Return on Investment

  • It will save time when moving huge amounts of data. Because it syncs so fast.
  • It will free up IT Staff to work on other projects. By allowing us to finish this current project first.
  • It will save our Company money by freeing up on old servers.
