Netlify Platform has become an invaluable tool for users seeking to quickly and efficiently deploy JavaScript-based PWAs. Users have found it particularly useful for testing changes in smaller applications, eliminating the need for complex delivery pipelines. By integrating Netlify Platform with Github, users can easily configure CI/CD and test applications in real-time, allowing them to run approximately 30 deployment pipelines per week across a range of projects.

The platform is especially well-suited for frontend scenarios, particularly those involving modern JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue, and Angular. It also serves as an excellent hosting solution for statically generated Jamstack sites. Users have reported that once a project is set up on Netlify Platform, they rarely need to access the admin panel thanks to the robust CMD tool provided.

With seamless GitHub integration, Netlify Platform automates build and deployment processes for user acceptance testing, general QA testing, and developer-based testing. It effectively addresses issues related to environment variables and SSL certificate maintenance, earning high praise from organizations relying on Git for building and deploying sites. In addition, freelancers appreciate the platform’s cost-effectiveness for hosting personal websites and freelance projects. Furthermore, bloggers find it valuable as they are able to host their blog sites on Netlify Platform at no cost.

  • Easy code deployment: Several users have praised the platform's ability to connect Github/Gitlab repos or drag and drop code folders directly onto the platform for convenient deployment without manual configuration. This feature has been described as helpful and time-saving.

  • Customizable build and publish details: The platform's customizable build and publish details have been appreciated by users, allowing them to tailor the deployment process according to their specific needs. This level of flexibility has been seen as a positive aspect of the platform.

  • Automated scaling and CDN support: Many reviewers have highlighted the platform's inbuilt scalability support, with servers automatically upgrading to handle traffic without any manual intervention required. Additionally, the built-in CDN ensures fast delivery of static applications over the web, contributing to a superior user experience.

Lack of Backend Hosting Features: Some users have expressed that Netlify Platform falls short in terms of backend hosting features like server or database tools, making it unsuitable for certain use cases. They feel restricted by the platform's limitations and find it challenging to implement complex functionalities that require more robust backend capabilities.

Costs Can Quickly Increase: Several users have mentioned that the costs of using Netlify Platform can quickly increase for commercial use, and suggest considering alternative options for commercial purposes. They have experienced unexpected surges in pricing as their usage grows, which can pose financial challenges and make it difficult to budget effectively.

Lack of Configuration Control: Users have pointed out that there is a lack of control on configuration options in Netlify Platform, making customization difficult. They express frustration with the limited ability to fine-tune settings and tailor the platform to their specific needs. This lack of configuration control hinders their ability to optimize performance and implement advanced customizations.

Netlify Platform is used for quick and fast PoC deployments for JavaScript based PWAs. We use it to quickly connect to Github to auto configure CI CD and test our applications in real time. This allows us to not depend on the complex standard delivery pipelines that are normally used for production releases, and instead, provide an easy way to test our changes for smaller applications. We run an average of 30 deployment pipelines a week, based on a variety of projects across the department
  • I can connect Github/Gitlab repos or drag and drop code folders directly to host them onto the platform, and can customize build and publish details. It handles all granular details itself, so I don't have to worry about configuring everything like I would have to do on an IaaS like AWS
  • Netlify Platform has inbuilt scalability support - meaning automatic upgrading of servers to handle traffic, without us needing to do anything at all, again, unlike IaaS, where we'd have to manually configure scaling
  • It has a built in CDN, meaning static applications can be served blazing fast over the web without worrying about traffic or latency
  • Netlify Platform is mainly aimed at static and frontend applications and doesn't have any particular backend hosting features like server or database tools. This makes it fall short of the use case that options like Heroku provide
  • Netlify Platform has a free tier, but the costs shoot up if the website is aimed at commercial use, and can easily cross the limits, thus for commercial use, it's better to consider all alternatives
  • In an ease to simplify hosting for small applications, there is a lack of control on a lot of configuration options in Netlify Platform since it's all abstracted away, and thus, there's not a lot of customization possible
Netlify Platform is the best tool when you want to quickly host and test small PoC apps or frontend applications where you don't expect a lot of traffic. It is best for simple React, Angular, Next or similar other apps. It is not appropriate for full stack applications, applications requiring databases, or hosting requirements wherein you'd need to customize the scalability

I used Netlify Platform for freelancing. Used the platform to host blog sites and freelanced websites. It addresses the cost problems for freelancers since it allows you to host your first site for free and the monthly cost for hosting a website is minimal. It is very useful for bloggers as they can host their blog site for free.
  • Can be easily integrated with other applications like Git
  • Generous free tier
  • Friendly developer tools
  • Documentation can be better for beginners
  • Not a feature rich platform
  • Pro features are costly
Netlify Platform can be best used for hosting personal sites like blog posts and for hosting easy and minimal websites. The platform is not appropriate for hosting large scale websites which might encounter huge traffic. Not ideal for large scale organisations. Best used for local business and small scale websites.

I use Netlify to host several of my personal websites. In my professional work, I have also used it for things like sharing design work and quickly hosting a prototype of ongoing projects. It's a great project for this type of thing because it allows you to quickly drag a folder of static files into the browser to deploy for sharing.
  • Hosting
  • Sharing static files.
  • Deployment
  • Hosting dynamic sites.
  • Content authoring for average users.
Netlify is a static website host, so it obviously wouldn't work for hosting dynamic websites built in PHP, such as WordPress or Drupal. It works very well with static sites with a git codebase on something like GitHub. It has automatic deployments, which include preview websites. It works very well with this workflow. There are solutions for allowing content authoring on static websites on Netlify, but I would probably reach for something like WordPress or Drupal for that.

In my organization, we use the Netlify Platform on a regular basis. if you want to build or deploy the sites from git then Netlify platform is the best option to go with. It is very good and easy to use. We use the Netlify Platform for multipurpose like maintaining tasks, generating reports, building and deploying sites and many more. It is very well maintained which attracts us to work towards this.

Whenever it comes to generating the allure execution reports or instantly building and deploying the site then Netlify Platform is the best option to go forward with. It gives us a sense of security and also it generates the API key which we can integrate with our frame work and go ahead with things.

we have two types of business scenarios that we run on Netlify Platford. Frontend with modern javascript frameworks like React, Vue & Angular Statically generated sites/portfolio AKA JamStack for the first case, we already have our backend code running on a server and exposing API endpoints. we can readily use this API with basic AUTH like JWT, Netlify Platform can handle the rest. more often than not, once we set up a project on Netlify Platform, we never have to check out the admin panel. Netlify Platform has a robust CMD tool. once the Pipeline setup is live, all one has to do is just commit and push the code. that's how easy it is the second scenario is to host statically generated Jamstack sites. these are basically pre-rendered websites that provide blazingly fast response time. once again, the same magic happens here, you focus on your code and just push it, Netlify Platform with its global range of CDN will distribute it for optimal speed.
  • command line tool
  • fast network of global CDNs
  • CI/CD ready to deploy
  • it is not aimed at it but first party laravel support would be nice.
  • their free tier was so handy, i wish they start some similar efforts
  • incorporate more WebOps mindset
Ideal scenario: let's say you have a portfolio site, you've built it using a modern javascript framework like Next.js. this inherently operates on the Jamstack philosophy. essentially it maps the whole possible outcome of web clicks and prerenders the website. this yields blazingly fast websites. it can also be used to create such blogs. Less ideal scenario: let's say you have some compute-heavy task or some enterprise application with lots of moving parts. Netlify Platform shouldn't be an ideal choice then, it may handle some complex blog and content management sites but its plays to its perks as most of them are static sites. enterprise applications are highly dynamic. thus renders Netlify Platform not a worthy contender.

To deploy and host static websites, we used Netlify Platform. Netlify is a simple platform that allows you to quickly deploy applications to its servers. It integrates seamlessly with GitHub for CI/CD process, where we kept our code repositories. One of the best things about Netlify is that it automatically performs a preview deployment for any commit in feature branches, allowing you to review the changes before you go to production.
  • Preview deployment
  • DNS management
  • CI/CD integration
  • The total build minutes in free tier could be increased
Netlify is best suited for the following scenarios: hosting of static-websites, CI/CD for static-websites, custom domain with SSL for the deployed website, out of the box CDN support which reduces website load time

We build websites and we use Netlify for hosting our websites. Its starter pack is good for beginners who build websites just for fun or have fewer users/visitors (less than one hundred). It's good for hosting multiple websites when you have multiple projects going on side by side. It is also good when you need to temporarily host your website for testing before main deployment.
  • Hosting multiple websites and having multiple projects
  • Updating the site by directly connecting to Github repository as new code is pushed
  • Temporary deployment to show preview on GitHub pull requests
  • Seemed good till now but the starter pack has limited storage
  • Site goes into sleep mode if it has no visitor for many days
  • The GitHub extension is also part of the enterprise pack but is an excellent feature
If you write code regularly and need to deploy websites, it's a good platform to deploy and host your websites. It's good to seamlessly monitor the deployment process. It has a logs feature where you can check your errors and previous deployment status. It is good for handling multiple projects and websites.

In order to make user acceptance testing, general QA testing, and developer-based testing easier to use, we are currently automating our build and deployment processes. the business issues I resolved were having environment variables for some client-side and server-side rendering for Javascript libraries, as well as readily maintaining SSL certificates.
  • CI/CD Actions are pretty good, makes it really easy to deploy changes
  • netlify functions is a great feature it let us ran server side stuff or scripts
  • redirects module is very useful and easy to use
  • they don't offer SSR for Vue as per now
  • you need to buy a paid plan to be able to add someone as collaborator
  • Tech support isn't very helpful. I feel like I am on my own
Everything you need for the majority of projects is available, including a fairly generous free plan, custom domains, an intuitive administration interface, and cloud functions. The redirects module is strong but very easy to use. Benefits include quick cloud hosting with API functionality and easy GitHub deployment integration that is really faster
