We use Okta to control all roles throughout all apps and including how long people can stay signed in before reauthenticating in order to quickly cut down access to extremely sensitive private data.
Okta is well suited to having more control over a large organization with lots of permissions on many apps that potentially need to be shut down fast
We leverage Okta as our primary identity provider (IDP) to manage secure authentication and authorization across all our applications. In addition to serving as our single sign-on (SSO) solution, Okta also plays a central role in streamlining workforce processes by acting as a workflow automation platform. This includes automating key aspects of employee lifecycle management, such as onboarding new hires and offboarding departing employees, as well as automating ticketing and notifications for our helpdesk staff.
Okta has the unique ability to unify all your platforms seamlessly. While it may seem complex at first, that's because it's solving incredibly sophisticated challenges. At the end of the day, would you rather have a solution that works comprehensively and can be customized to your needs, or something overly simplistic that only addresses part of the problem? For me, I prefer a product that goes above and beyond—and that's exactly what Okta delivers.
Single Sign On provider for our business so that users don't have to remember a bunch of passwords. Additionally, it has helped with our onboarding and offboarding workflow as it minimizes number of steps involved and provides a single pane of glass. Overall, a great product with no major issues or obnoxious quirks.
Okta would be less appropriate for very small companies where account management can still be done manually as Okta would be cost prohibitive to implement.
Okta is well suited for anyone with either a lot of platforms to manage that would integrate with Okta or for anyone with an org of 50+ employees.
We use Okta for account provisioning and our main SSO/Identity provider. It helps greatly with onboarding birthright access. Our IAM was greatly improved once we had Okta up and running.
Okta is well suited if you have an environment where you need to leverage IAM smoothly, and want to automate user account management. If you have a lot of users Okta can help save your IT team a lot of time. <div>

Okta is the primary cloud IdP for the campus. Several years ago we started a project to move all services and servers over to a more secure authentication and authorization system than local password databases within each application. Also, our Information Security department wanted to enforce uniform password criteria across the campus such that passwords would meet minimum criteria for best practices.
I have been personally involved with integration of Okta on three systems, our Jamf Pro instance, our Keyserver (Allsight) instance, and our internal information portal. These have all been smooth installations for professional staff. However, Okta also validates students for the various public facing services that they need off campus. The only thing I can think of where it is less suitable is when it is used as an SSO solution for portable computers (laptops) and mobile devices. If there is a service issue and the central IdP authority service can't be reached, that can result in access problems.
We use Okta as our main authentication store for most all of our applications, both internal an external.
Okta is well-suited for those who need an agile authentication store for applications both on-prem and in the cloud. Okta still would work, but would be less appropriate for an organization that is entirely on-prem that need an authentication store local to the business.
We have so many private resources like source code repositories, documentation, secret keys, patient information, etc. and we want to keep secure for non-authorized users, and we use Okta to have a single place to authenticate users in all our internal applications (SSO login)
Okta works good for big companies, with lot of applications or with lot of employees. It works good for internal networks; however, it can be used for customer access as well. Okta is also recommended for companies suffering data breaches, data loss, hacker attacks, or companies with highly sensitive or confidential data.
I use Okta daily! Okta is where all of my work apps / services are stored into one central location for easy access. Through Okta, I can access these apps/services with Single Sign On which makes working so much more efficient. With Okta, most of these apps requires authentication - and so I'm able to verify my identify through a push notification sent to my phone for added security.
I think Okta is great for larger enterprise companies that require an added layer of security and have larger amounts of data stored. Prior to my current role, I worked in startups and I don't think the need for Okta was as prevalent. But for enterprise companies with thousands of employees, lots of services/applications, processes, and data collection - having a central and cloud platform like Okta makes everything very efficient. I keep Okta bookmarked and use it non-stop.
My organization uses Okta as our identity provider. We use it for all of our SAML and SSO connections. We also use it for multi factor authentication. This helps us address the issue we had when citrix cloud did not have a native integration with Azure AD or Entra ID now.
Okta is designed for larger scale organizations. Just being an identify provider is not worth the cost for a smaller organization which can leverage Entra ID or Google for a fraction of the cost. Okta is great at workflow processing and automation if you subscribe to that feature set. That is extremely helpful with large turnover organizations.
We use it for single sign on for various applications. It works well to secure our information as well as only having to keep track of one password. It's used company wide. It addresses security and eliminates the need for multiple passwords and constant password reset issues company wide. It has really made things easier.
It really simplifies signing in securely. I feel confident signing in and confident that our company information is secure. Easy to authenticate as well as easy to rest passwords when needed. There have really been no scenarios where Okta has been less appropriate, it really is a safe and simple tool to use.
