Great all-in-one tool, but on the expensive side

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use VWO for A/B testing, usually when clients already have VWO in place.

VWO handles A/B testing and also heatmapping, recordings, and surveying so it's an all-in-one tool that covers testing and anything Hotjar can do.

VWO helps us & our clients to get insights on how people use the website, gather research on what problems exist and how we might solve them, and then to experiment to see if we can change behaviour to increase revenue and conversions

Pros

  • Solid A/B testing functionality
  • Unlimited surveying - their conditional logic is great, too
  • Collecting data via heatmapping
  • Observing behaviour via recordings

Cons

  • Heatmapping is a little bit trickier than other tools and takes some learning in terms of not using standard regex
  • Historically there has been a few issues with flickering
  • They've updated the navigation for A/B testing that was previously difficult to find important criteria to set, so that's good!

Likelihood to Recommend

It's a great, comprehensive tool that's easy to use and clients love, but it's also quite expensive compared to some of the modern alternatives e.g. Convert, Varify.

If a client wants to use VWO we're more than happy to use it and historically it's helped deliver very successful optimisation programmes.

If a client / colleague asked me about using VWO, I'd highlight the above and say there are cheaper alternatives for testing & research, but VWO does it all in one for more money if you want the convenience.

A solid personalisation tool with good integration capabilities

Rating: 6 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

VWO is a personalisation tool for web production that my organiastion uses to personalise content for different audiences - this includes tailoring messages and language for different countries or markets, as well as based on information obtained by other providers like ClearBit i.e. tailoring a message or advert that a web user sees because we can identify that they come from a specific sector, company or country. It is used to run various tests, also, to see how things are performing.

Pros

  • Personalisation tests
  • Reporting
  • Usability

Cons

  • Number of tests available
  • Pricing structure
  • Integration with other tech stack

Likelihood to Recommend

VWO is well suited, in my experience, to an organisation who wants to make a number of small personalisation elements to their website and test different things. We are quite a large organisation, working in multiple languages, markets, countries etc. and sometimes this means that we want to run and test too many things at once - it may be our pricing model, but I also think there is a limit on how many personalisation tests we can run with VWO at a given time.

The easiest web experimentation tool to use

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use VWO to do a/b tests, personalizations and rollouts, mainly. Lately we are starting to use its new features like heatmaps, scrollmaps, recording, etc. VWO represents a solution to perform these web experiments and personalization, and now it is also helping us on qualitative analytics, though these ones are only available on paid plans. The scope of our use case is very broad as this is the tool that we use the most on the CRO team. We even use its personalization module to perform temporary website modifications.

Pros

  • Support
  • Innovation
  • Ease of use

Cons

  • Limited functionalities on the basic paid plan
  • Chat support (to bring it back)
  • Reports on GA4 with VWO data don't work well

Likelihood to Recommend

It works better for either small or big companies because small companies can start with the free plan which is very decent and has everything they need. Also for big companies who get the best paid plans they get a lot of premium functionalities, the insight module, outstanding reports. But for medium size companies who can only afford the basic paid plan, it may not be the best tool as it is very limited. For example, they cannot analize a/b tests for new and ruturning visitors, neither based on the users device category.

Great for messaging validation!

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a Product Marketing Manager, my team and I use VWO to create landing page A/B tests to test messaging changes for specific verticals and understand what messaging drives better conversion rates.

Pros

  • Duplicate pages to run A/B tests
  • Set clear success criteria for tests
  • Quickly in-app editor to make simple changes on pages to test variables

Cons

  • Test tagging
  • Test categorization

Likelihood to Recommend

It's excellent for making no-code changes in landing pages to test variables like a copy, color, and button placement. It empowers users to set up and tests independently and validate hypotheses without technical help. It's not suited for guided usability tests.

Full-Featured Testing Platform for a Reasonable Price

Rating: 6 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used VWO for landing page testing and customization as an agency on behalf of our clients. VWO was easy to implement and easy to use. The subscription allows for unlimited experiments and customizations which is nice. The WYSIWYG editor makes setting up tests and customizations easy. We used it for two years.

Pros

  • Landing page experiments: A/B, multi-variant, etc.
  • Landing page customizations.

Cons

  • Visual Editor doesn't work great with all sites.
  • Integration with Google Analytics.

Likelihood to Recommend

Landing page testing, Conversion Rate Optimization, and Customization. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Essential parts of the marketing playbook. VWO does a pretty good job with all three. If you are dealing with particularly big sites with lots of traffic and want to be running many experiments at a time, then the free Google Optimize isn't necessarily well suited. The biggest advantage that VWO offers is the ability to run unlimited experiments etc at a price point that is much cheaper than the price for Optimize in Google 360. It's just as full-featured at a significantly lower price. If you're running on a smaller scale, then the free Google Optimize product makes more sense.

VWO at use!

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We wanted to quickly deploy A/B tests and run multivariate tests as well. We were previously relying on full deploy cycles and modifying the underlying front-end code for each test. It really consumed our front-end development resources and debugging live was a pain. Google Optimize didn't cut it because of SSR issues.

Pros

  • Editing A/B tests in the front end with a GUI.
  • Running multivariate tests.
  • Showing the significance of results using a Bayesian model.

Cons

  • User management.
  • Credits usage between teams. There is no way of allocating the credits between teams.

Likelihood to Recommend

It was really useful to improve our test deployment. What wasn't that good in my opinion was the rendering times after running the tests. That is because the tests weren't run in the backend but in the front thus effecting loading times. The two options were either blocking the whole page rendering on having a blink.

VWO is the way to go

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use VWO to address pain points on our site, such as UX shortfalls, design changes, and functionality improvements. We've used VWO for over a year and have run close to 100 tests, some to 100% of traffic in the interim before they're fully implemented.

Pros

  • Design updates.
  • Functionality Improvements.
  • Providing detailed data.

Cons

  • Further data tracking (currently first click model).
  • Reporting possible issues.
  • Communicating changes in a test (i.e variation 1 and 2 swapping winning status).

Likelihood to Recommend

VWO can be powerful to build upon existing functionality and improve designs & functions. However, it is dependent on what is already there, it cannot create new functionality. For example, we ran a test on search pages and wanted to show 48 products at a time, but because our next amount per page was 50, we had to settle for 50.

Great testing platform with lots of features

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It was a pretty great tool that provided more analytics options that optimized. It was easy to set up simple A/B tests.

Pros

  • A/B tests on homepage.
  • Tests can be scheduled to run at a particular time.
  • Additional service for pop up messages.
  • Ability to move components up/down for a test.

Cons

  • A lot of bugs on PDP pages.
  • Some software, while good, looks outdated.
  • They can make their contracts more flexible.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is great for running a simple A/B test on a homepage. If you have several homepage heroes on an HP you can test which ones are more clickable and viewable by running a test. They have great heatmaps that show what are the most clickable, popular spots on a page, scroll depth, etc. It was hard for our company to get out of a contract with them, they were charging big fees for ending the contract early so that part was not great.

Very happy we chose to work with VWO

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are very happy we started using VWO when we did. Their platform has been great and very easy to use and implement. We wanted a great platform for A/B testing and conversion rate optimization and decided on VWO after doing a lot of research. Very happy with our decision.

Pros

  • A/B Testing.
  • Conversion Rate Optimization.

Cons

  • Pricing.
  • Access to features.

Likelihood to Recommend

I believe that VWO is well suited for already successful e-commerce businesses that are needing help with conversion rate optimization and A/B testing. I do not believe it is appropriate for small businesses that might not have a full grasp of their online sales and how conversion rate optimization works.

VWO - the best decisions for your site.

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use VWO to A / B Test new design and call to action buttons across our website. The marketing department and team are the primary users of this tool, but operations and developers support the use. It helps us find out what is the most successful new design or button to launch on our website.

Pros

  • Insights
  • Tools
  • Interface

Cons

  • Reporting
  • Functionality
  • Training

Likelihood to Recommend

VWO is great for anyone who has a website and needs to test different options before making a real business decision. It helps educate the marketing team on what works and what doesn't. It is less appropriate for teams and organizations that do not want to test different options and need a stable consistent site.
