We use this product for content management and analysis. This choice was made partially because of the enterprise security features available . We were also interested in the professional services but did not wind up using them as we originally intended. We saw the integration with CI/CD and Git as a big advantage as well. Support options also seemed to be superior to other options as well.

Well I think its ability to deal with high traffic environments is great. As a major Fortune 500 company we can certainly drive a lot of traffic. Also having developers able to integrate tools with it through the plugins, APIs, and git are really useful. I personally use Git quite a bit, but I am more of a developer than someone who uses this platform day in and day out.

Likelihood to Recommend

We are a small business, and not having to employ resources for DevOps associated with Wordpress Hosting, monitoring, and scaling is well-suited for our company. The team's responsiveness when we have issues with the website is fantastic. The pricing model on HTTP requests has become costly for us as we use Wordpress's APIs for our mobile applications, causing us to think about better storing and caching information in local storage. Hence, a "chatty" app or website might not best suit the HTTP request pricing model.

We are handling large-scale traffic from Google when it spikes. We have extensive social media profiles on Facebook and get much traffic from Google News and Discovery. This means that traffic can be very unpredictable, and we need to make sure that our servers "just work" when there is a spike in traffic. Any downtime is lost revenue literally by the second. WPVIP ensures everything is running, no matter the traffic volume, and running/loading fast!!

For websites that get a large number of concurrent visitors and have the potential for traffic spikes from Google or social media, WordPress VIP "just works" and is reliable!

Well suited:

- Smaller independent page/content hosting

- Working with 3rd parties on shared projects without exposing them to internal tools and workflows.

Not Well Suited:

- More custom large scale applications with connected pages.

- Large content that is delivered through out automated pipelines. We do not use WordPress API.

I have been using WordPress VIP for almost 2 years now. At my work it is used to manage and create sites for different types of companies. It is easy to use and very adaptable to different needs. Even when it needs development to adjust it to the client’s requirements, the platform is robust and has many options to create.

It is appropriate for larger companies due to the pricing. But as the performance is really good, having options for smaller organizations would be a great idea.

I would say it is less appropriate for 5-15 person organizations where there are no technical contacts and organizations where go to live speed is the most important feature. Since GitHub deployment is being utilized at WordPress VIP, it might take a bit longer to deploy new features.

Regarding their competitors, VIP is really suitable for larger clients with more demanding technical needs. Performance doesn't drop no matter the size of the project. Not thinking about downtime or performance dropping allows you to focus on other aspects of your role and deliver overall higher quality to your clients in larger projects.
