I mostly use Adobe Acrobat in a professional setting to compile reports for an environmental consulting company. The problems it addresses is allowing me to create a complete report with all the documents in one place.

Allows me to combine multiple documents into one
Allows reports to look polished and consistent
Has universal file compatibility - opening the same way across clients

Easier editing of pdf's - the editing process is cumbersome sometimes
Faster performance - big files often lag or freeze
Sometimes compiling is unreliable - certain files won't combine but can be opened which slows down workflow
