Overall Satisfaction with Adobe PhotoShop
I use Adobe Photoshop for all of my digital photography needs, including batch processing and watermarking photographs. This tool is incredibly powerful and I have yet to come across a use case that it could not meet. I pre-process RAW photographs with the included Adobe Camera Raw plugin, and then use the tools available within Photoshop to complete the product.
- Recordable actions - easily automate repetitive work.
- Batch processing - output large amounts of work quickly.
- Photo manipulation - there's nothing you can't create.
- Heavy cache use - can be hardware intensive.
- Minimal support for SVGs.
- Steeper learning curve than some alternatives.
- The ability to record and replay actions is an incredibly useful and often undervalued tool. You can quickly and easily automate repetitive tasks and run them across thousands of photographs.
- Used in conjunction with recordable actions, the batch processing feature makes editing a series of photos, for example products for an online store, incredibly efficient.
- Powerful tools like the spot healing brush and sky replacement make what used to be extremely time consuming manual processes incredibly quick and easy.
- Batch processing with recordable actions has sped up productivity immensely.
- Crashing can sometimes be a problem, but as long as you save often it shouldn't decrease efficiency too much.
- The Creative Cloud suite comes with many other useful tools for media production and excellent libraries of assets.
Before using Photoshop, I was a long-time GIMP user. As much as people may try to tell you otherwise, for modern digital media creation, there really is no comparison. The open-source community behind GIMP simply cannot keep up with the rapid development of new and powerful features in Photoshop. With every release, old tools become better and faster, and new tools are added such as neural filters and sky replacement that make previously labor-intensive tasks as easy as clicking a button.
