Overall Satisfaction with Airtable
I manage my lab's metadata in Airtable.
- Airtable enables you to have a relational database with a flexible easy-to-use frontend that's compatible with spreadsheets and stored in the cloud.
- Enforcing uniqueness constraints and using hidden primary keys.
- More centralized location for storing metadata. Helps ensure it doesn't get out of sync across researchers in my lab.
- Excel, Google Docs and PostgreSQL
Airtable actually provides relational semantics. Many people use spreadsheets as databases, which is not really what they're designed for. Alternatively, SQL databases have a higher overhead than Airtable.
