Overall Satisfaction with Algolia

We use Algolia to power product searches on our website and app for all the brands. The search engine was easy to integrate and quick to set-up rather than building in house. It can perform all sorts of searches and synonyms or misspelt words too. Overall we went ahead with Algolia to save time and capital cost.
  • Easy integration and quick setup
  • Dynamic reranking based on product performances
  • Search on Synonyms and misspelt words
  • We didn't get much technical support. We feel we underutilised Algolia, a technical person could have helped us in leveraging personalisation, dynamic reranking etc better.
  • Algolia analytics dashboard can be better. Key metrics like click position isn't available on dashboard.
  • AI page level recommendation to reduce no results. Algolia had about 5% no results, these could be shown some results based on ai matching the query and pages/product contents.
  • Initial days, Algolia was easy to start with and saved crucial development time to build rest of the website and app.
  • Over time, the bills become huge as company scale and doesn't make sense to spend so much on search.
  • It worked for us for about 5 years and now we will be moving to inhouse search tool.

We chose Algolia based on our project's needs, technical proficiency, and desired level of control.

Algolia is very well suited for small organisations launching their website or app for ecommerce. It is quick to setup, easy to integrate but costs you more in long term. For bigger organisation with sheer scale, building search inhouse will always be beneficial for long term. It works that's it.
