Overall Satisfaction with AlphaSense

Primarily, searching financials and earnings transcripts for key words and sentiment. The most common use is for us to query financial statements to find nuances about how disclosures or language has changed over time, often times we have a need to find those in real-time to answer live questions from clients or colleagues.

Pros

  • Semantic searches
  • Aggregation
  • Filtering

Cons

  • Timeliness
  • Summarization
  • Call transcription
  • Productivity
  • Faster information retrieval
  • Confidence
Overall, I am very happy with the text search capabilities and particularly the availability of short blurbs to gather the context before skipping to the correct place in the text. Meanwhile, I believe that the sentiment analysis is largely distracting/not very valuable, and that certain search cases could be improved - in particular, presentation search and word alterations (e.g. I searched for "useful life" and it couldn't point me to any hits, because in the text it was plural "useful lives").
It has generally helped in faster information retrieval, we have not yet used industry research or calls in a meaningful way. Therefore, I would say that it does not necessarily improve our industry understanding, but certainly increases your speed to ingest information which means you can just consume more than otherwise without the software.
We do not have an alternative to AlphaSense right now and have previously gone directly to Edgar or the company websites to search for filings, company press releases, or presentations. I am not aware of any similar products myself right now unfortunately.

Did AlphaSense live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of AlphaSense go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy AlphaSense again?

Yes

Searching for references on the fly to answer specific questions from clients or colleagues, particularly where nuance is required (so, searching specific language or disclosures in financial statements becomes very helpful). Meanwhile, I believe that in scenarios where slide decks (company presentations) are required to answer a question, it typically is better for us to directly go to the original source given AlphaSense sometimes has issues finding the keywords in those and/or is too slow to actually load those in real-time.
