Overall Satisfaction with AppNexus

AppNexus is being used by our Trading Desk - Affiperf. Affiperf is part of our specialties department and we handle several clients who buy programmatically and we decide which DSP to use for each campaign, and one of those DSPs is AppNexus.

Pros

  • Targeting geographically by cities and regions, it has better targeting capabilities compared to other DSPs.
  • More and various targeting contextual categories.
  • Budget pacing is really great and super accurate.

Cons

  • Customer Service - you don't have an account representative assigned to trading desks.
  • User interface is not easy - if you are new to the tool - it's not that easy to know how to set up everything.
  • There is no training or certification available for users.
  • The performance campaign I ran with AppNexus didn't deliver the expected/desired ROI goal.
It's well suited on certain types of campaigns - those who have specific inventory targeting or limited city targeting.

The most important thing for us are product features, if appnexus can offer something no other DSP can then that would be a main factor to decide to use appnexus instead of other DSPs.

You should ask users what they use more often and offer only what they need not what you think they need.
No - there is no facility to customize the interface
Yes - we have added extensive custom code - Yes, for conversion pixels we added several variables for one of our performance campaigns

AppNexus Support

Because the support team does give you support, they take 24hrs to get back to you but once they open a ticket they focus on resolving the issue for you. My only problem is that you don't have a specific account representative assigned to you.

Yes, I had a problem with a campaign that was not delivering and had several questions regarding the campaign setup I had done and the support representative followed up and helped me through all the process until the issue was resolved.

Because I think the interface is kind of confusing at the beginning and it confuses you a lot.

Because it's a great DSP but not the best

I don't think is that hard but we didn't have the support/service in order to learn how to complete the integration

Because the service is very limited and not done on a personal level, it's like they don't really care for us - and we are their clients
It was easy at the beginning but then the account representative changed and after that it was a total disaster - they treated us like we were bothering them
I wasn't involved in the sale
Be sure to keep your client happy after the sale so they can continue using your software
