Atlassian - Awesome
Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Confluence
Confluence is used across the entire company. We have used it as a collaboration tool to keep track of everything from personal notes on tasks to project statuses and team home pages. The amount it is used varies from project to project, but it is almost always used at least to some extent in every project.
Pros
- The rich text editor that confluence uses is better than any other available.
- The keyboard shortcuts are natural and intelligent.
- The macro/plugin support within the confluence editor is easy to use.
Cons
- Although the Active Directory synchronization module works, it is a bit of a pain to setup, and synchronization sometimes fails. It would also be good if the AD module allowed you to indicate other meta-data that should be synchronized with the user's account, such as "Department", "Title", "Phone", etc. You shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars more for another plugin to do just that one task.
- Upgrading to newer versions of confluence is not always easy. Atlassian has made significant improvement on this already, but it still requires quite a bit of time from our IT department to ensure that the new version is stable.
- Archiving content in Confluence is not straight-forward. Separate plugins are required to support an "archive" process, and the process is not the best. Confluence should naturally support the ability to archive.
- Our company deals with a lot of information. Making that information available across the entire company is always a challenge, and Confluence helps with that.
- Information contained within Confluence can become out-dated quickly, and it is difficult to maintain the "latest" information (but not impossible)
