Vestcor Automox Review
Overall Satisfaction with Automox
We use Automox to push out critical Microsoft patches to all our workstations, we also use it to see which devices are in compliance using its built in reporting features. Sometimes a number of devices will require certain pieces of software to be updated or installed at once, we have created custom worklets for use cases like this which has been very helpful. We have also created worklets to verify things like; administrator accounts on certain computers.
Pros
- Ability to easily push out patches
- Gathers detailed information about workstations and organizes them in a readable manner
- Allows the ability to build custom worklets
- Allows the ability to see which devices are compliant without update and security policies
Cons
- Tutorials and guidance for more advanced use cases of worklets (For example, making it easier for administrators to create a worklet that would gather all devices in an organization that have a certain software installed, export it to a CSV with information like user account, software version, etc.)
- More ability to Automox agents to detect Linux processes and software packages
- Positive - Saves a lot of time because most of our updates are pushed out manually
- Positive - Saves time when we can push out or do work on multiple computers at once, without distributing users working on them using worklets
- Positive - Helps us maintain a good cyber security posture by using reporting to see computers that have not received critical updates, this can be accessed easily in the software reports
I was not here when it was implemented, so I am not best suited to answer this question, as I joined later.
