Overall Satisfaction with Automox

We have primarily been using it to keep all 100+ computers in our network up-to-date without needing to constantly hound users about updating manually. We've also been using their remote desktop and custom worklet features to streamline the processes we've already been using with other products, like adding a temporary admin account so we don't need to give users a master key to their computer.

Pros

  • Their remote desktop is easy to use.
  • The premade worklets are helpful both to perform tasks that we need to automate and as reference points for our own.
  • Worklets are very easy to make yourself, provided you have some beginner knowledge of PowerShell scripting.
  • Their staff is very friendly and constantly holding digital events to meet with them and discuss issues you may have, or just to learn more about the product.

Cons

  • Almost impossible to spot from the user's side. While this is often great, it can lead to issues if the computer is online but can't automatically connect.
  • Glitches aren't well described, simply responding with some form of "Operation failed. Please try again."
  • Setup has to be done on a computer-by-computer basis, which makes it tricky to roll out if a large number of your computers are remote.
  • Has completely removed the time we've spent on checking for updates or telling other users to do so.
All browsers and Windows updates have been completed automatically with
no impact to the end user whatsoever. Originally, we would need to keep
an eye on any major updates that were put out by either Windows or
Chrome, then send an all employees email to update it, with no guarantee
that it would actually be followed through with. Now, it happens in the
background, and the only thing the user has to do is reboot every once
in a while, which it also reminds them to do.
From a technician standpoint, it is very easy to use. On the user's end, however, there is little to no control that they can take. This means that in the event someone's computer doesn't connect properly, there is no way that the user can help you to use any of Automox's feature, which is especially annoying if you're using Automox as your primary way to remote into a computer.
Zoho Assist's remoting has more features like fast opening programs like control panel, and allows you to remote into a user's computer without needing to have touched the computer before to install it. However, it adds a lot of complication when you need admin controls, which is more often than not in our environment. Automox's remote control needs their computer to be connected to your Automox pod, but gives you way more control once you're in. It also comes with the rest of Automox's features, as opposed to Zoho which is paid per product.

Do you think Automox delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Automox's feature set?

Yes

Did Automox live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Automox go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Automox again?

Yes

It's great if you have a large number of computers in your environment that you need to update at once. It's also great for automating or streamlining helpdesk operations. It's less appropriate for smaller numbers of computers where you can manually make changes to them individually. I'd suggest being well versed in PowerShell and automation beforehand, but you can definitely use it out of the box without that knowledge.
