Overall Satisfaction with Basecamp

We mainly use Basecamp during project delivery phases for collaboration between both internal and external teams. This aids clarity of communication and ensures that issues, risks and milestones are managed in a transparent manner.
  • Issue tracking - having a contact log for issues that ensures tracking to completion.
  • Document management - documents such as specification, designs and basic screenshots can be added and retrieved easily.
  • User interface - the solution is simple to use and intuitive enough that only the most basic of training is required, even for non-technical team members.
  • Multi-media support - it would be good to be able to preview multi-media files.
I've used Jira for similar tasks. I find Basecamp to have a better user interface (less cluttered, more intuitive) and the ability to get team members up to speed quickly is a big factor in our successful adoption of the tool.
Basecamp is more suited to specific project tracking tasks (both from a global and granular scale). The message board functionality is also useful and in some cases can form "wikis" to support business processes.
