Overall Satisfaction with BrightHR

We keep a record of all personnel for our group on Bright HR. We record all holiday, sickness and other absence as well as basic contract details including hours/days worked. We do not keep full payroll details at this stage but plan to do so in the future. We have 9 branches at 8 locations with a total of about 90 employees. We use BLIP for one of the branches and pay overtime based on the BLIP data. Some staff also use POP for expenses. We use Bright Safe for Health and Safety at all branches.

Pros

  • BLIP is working very well. Staff find it easy to use and the geo-fencing that can be set up is very useful.
  • Reporting, in particular reporting of Absence. We run this monthly and the information we can download is flexible and useful.
  • Sick analysis - helps in controlling absence.
  • Holiday planning and authorization is very helpful and details including date booked helps manage requests.

Cons

  • Occasionally we have issues adding staff. My call related to an email address which Bright HR showed as being in use already. I could not locate that address and so had to go to the help desk to get it cleared.
  • We have started circulating documents to staff but at the moment, staff do not always notice a document has come through or know where to look for the document. We need to train our staff but the system alert is is not particularly obvious.
  • When we calculate holiday using HMRC calculator, it does not always match the Bright HR calculation. We use the Bright HR calculation even if it does not match HMRC.
  • When we use Bright HR to circulate a document, Bright HR shows us when a member of staff has opened the document so we want to chase the employees who have not opened the document and this is a very manual process. It would be nice to be able to get a list and just email those who need chasing. At the moment it needs to be done individually.
  • Able to reduce one member of staff in personnel from 5 days to 3 days.
  • Able to reduce time spent by payroll on holiday records significantly and improve accuracy significantly.
  • Able to improve control of sick absence and improve record keeping.
  • BLIP meant we did not need to buy expensive attendance software.
  • Looking at possible use of payroll and other aspects of Bright HR not used at present.
In the Personnel and Payroll Department, we have generally found Bright HR quite easy to set up and use. It is generally easy to add a new member of staff. We have a small number of staff who seem to be unable to use the system and so their managers need to put on leave applications for them. These tend to be staff who find use of apps difficult. As the branches are relatively small this is something we can manage and I think it is probably more of a user problem than the software.

I did not give Bright HR a 10 because of the rather manual way we have to identify and chase staff who have not read a document circulated.
We use Sage Payroll for salaries and we also use Sage 50 and 200 but only for accounting records. We looked at Sage HR but found that it was not particularly easy to use and links to payroll were not satisfactory. We were not looking for software when we took Bright HR. It was part of our contract with Peninsula and we have been very pleased with the outcome.

Do you think BrightHR delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with BrightHR's feature set?

Yes

Did BrightHR live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of BrightHR go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy BrightHR again?

Yes

We find Bright HR is very well suited for recording, authorizing and reviewing holiday. We no longer have problems with double bookings and where there is a conflict we are able to come to a fair resolution. We can see when the booking was made and the system shows us conflicts when we come to authorize holidays.

We find Bright HR - BLIP very useful for tracking the staff hours worked and we use it to record and pay overtime. It suits us as we are only dealing with around 20 to 28 staff. We might need something more sophisticated for a larger number of staff.
