Overall Satisfaction with Canvas

We use Canvas as our global LMS solution. Specifically for online courses, but our face to face and broadcast courses use Canvas as a content repository.

Pros

  • Organizing Content in Modules
  • SpeedGrader feature for grading and student feedback
  • Allows for course level and global customization

Cons

  • The Gradebook needs improvement
  • Ability to edit css for mobile
  • Quiz feature needs to have more options for question types, alternative questions, and extra credit questions
  • Students enjoy having syllabus and other course files online.
  • Students really like the ability to check grades online in higher ed.
  • Students like using the Canvas messaging system to stay in contact with instructors.
Canvas is a new age LMS. It allows teachers and instructional designers to scaffold and plan their courses in many different ways incorporating custom styling option and LTI integrations that I was never able to use in Blackboard or Moodle.
Don't adopt Canvas LMS with the intention to use it like other LMS's. Really look at the functionality, and the features to see how you can alter the way you're delivering content.
