Overall Satisfaction with Cisco 1000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR 1000)

I have deployed many of these devices throughout field deployments. They are suitable for any site that does not have high bandwidth services available (>100Mbps). They are inexpensive and robust. I really miss the old 89x routers. I have had many problems with the ISR4300 routers, especially with the backplane to ethernet expansion modules. These devices have really bridged the gap. I don't usually want a device that supports T1 or SRST anymore, and these devices are the right combination of price and performance for all but the most stringent site requirements.
  • Low cost
  • Easy install
  • Good performance
  • Multiple mounting options
  • Perfect for a small site, including built in switch and modem
  • Not great for SRST
  • No T1 support
  • 19" rackmount is a little awkward
  • Lifecycle of ISR 4k devices can be cheaper than maintenance, leading to ROI measured in months.
  • Eliminating the need to do RAM and flash memory upgrades on aging routers.
  • The embedded Cell modules are cheaper than standalone cell modems.
These devices are still supported unlike most ISR800's, faster and cheaper than ISR 4000's. They are a true all in one box solutions. The IR1800 and IR1100 are great for DC power solutions, but are costly if environmentally hardened devices are not required. Coupled with a low cost, what is not to love.

Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN, Cisco 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers (ASR 1000), Cisco Catalyst 9200 Series Switches
It is my go-to device for any small to medium site. I only look at other options if there is a hard requirement for redundant power or serial connections. If SRST is a hard requirement, you may also need to go to a ISR 4k or CAT8k instead, but these options are far more expensive.
