Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Catalyst 3650 Series
Cisco Catalyst Switches are the backbone of our infrastructure. We depend on these for connecting servers and storage on our virtualization platform. They are an industry standard and our engineers are able to support them easily. You will know the hardware support on the server and storage will easily handle the workload.
- They are dependable
- Sends traffic efficiently
- Monitored easily
- Vendor support can be difficult
- Pricing can be high without buying in volume
- Resellers can be difficult to negotiate with
- Minimizes support costs by being easily supported by our administrators and contractors
- Helps us easily monitor performance
- Connects our critical environments together
We have experimented with using less expensive hardware but found that getting support for them can be more difficult. The overall community just has more experience with Cisco products than with other vendors. More people will have seen the issues that you have run into. Even though support contracts cost more the overall supportability is much higher
Both Dell and Netgear switches we've tried generally all work great. The difficulty has always been trying to find people with experience to support them. Neither have as many capabilities as the Cisco catalyst switches. Our engineers prefer the stability of cisco switches and wanted to continue with them rather than save a few dollars with other brands.
