Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
Cisco ISE is used for administrative access to network devices, identity access to network resources and as a radius server to grant access to the networks. This addresses the issue of managing access to the different switches, routers, access points and provides access to individuals based on the security which is needed.
Pros
- manageable scaled administrative access to network devices as needed
- Great use as a radius server which allows proper authentication and authorization into the network
- Multiple conditions that can be utilized to grant users access based on their role in the organization
Cons
- Cisco ISE conditions that can be used to grant or deny access are so granular it can be overwhelming. Reviewing how the conditions are presented is needed
- The steps to grant administrative access to Cisco ISE using AD have many steps and reducing them would make managing Cisco ISE easier
- The licensing of ISE using Cisco Smart Software Manager can be complex in granting the different feature licenses that ISE needs
- ISE provides easy management access of network equipment so that engineers do not waste time in management so that they can attend to other tasks which increases efficiency
- Cisco ISE stable software code is reliable and the radius services have very little downtime. This provides a great return on investment for the company
- ISE is able to address the concerns of who has access to the environment and why, which meets regulatory and security requirements
