Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)

802.1x port authentication, portal services, and profiling endpoints

Pros

  • integrates well with SNA and Catalyst Center
  • scalable for an enterprise deployment

Cons

  • better troubleshooting tools for failed authentications, something like a simulator to see if the issue can be recreated
  • It is a DISA STIG requirement that we have 802.11x authentication on the network. ISE was chosen because of its proven track record

We have several types of devices which are passive meaning they do not broadcast their MAC addresses so we end up removing ISE authentication from the switch interface because of this limitation. I wish there is a way where we could identify the interface and create a policy or set some timers that will not be global but on an interface by interface basis.
