Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points
The Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points are deployed in six our our school campuses. It provides efficient wireless connectivity across our six campuses that services students, staff and guests. Having 6 geographically diverse locations and a central management IT team, it is important for us to have reliable wireless equipment on campuses.
Pros
- Ease of connectivity
- Application of secure connectivity
- Integration with Microsoft AD for authentication
Cons
- It can expand its radio range in terms of distance reach
- It can improve it's design as it looks like a plain flat brick
- I would like to see more integration with security
- Better solution in segmenting and authentication like clearpass
- It's expensive so the initial cost is high
- It's reliable that you can forget that it is there and it just keeps working
- Warranty claim and support service is a breeze, excellent
The Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points (WAP) is a smart yet simple device to manage. It replicates configurations at few clicks. The key to having the management easier is to ensure that you have your infrastructure and logical comms flow designed properly otherwise you will be in a massive world of difficult troubleshooting. Again the key is design, get it right then forget is is even there. Get it wrong then it will keep you awake.
The Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points works seamlessly with Cisco Meraki MS 200/48 like siblings that gets along well. The Meraki Switch produces sufficient power for the POE requirements of the Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points that we have. The throughput is what has been rated that it works really well.
The Cisco Meraki MR Wireless Access Points fare really well against HPE Aruba AP. The cost difference is minimal on the hardware although things get more expensive on support and subscription cost (on going cost). Speed and throughput seems to be better on Cisco Meraki (user feedback and experience not technically measured). User connectivity is better with HPE Aruba primarily because of the Clearpass solution on top of its generic software management.
