Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Meraki vMX
We are utilizing a single vMX as an edge appliance to forward our Meraki logs to our SEIM. It’s not doing a ton of compute or any advanced routing. However, it’s been bulletproof, encountering zero issues over 2 years.
- Easily deployable
- Great alerting
- Included in Meraki dashboard
- Like all Meraki products- has a big price tag
- Ability to connect numerous physical locations to a private cloud instance
- Bulletproof reliability for log collection
Setting up the cloud instance was more difficult than configuring the actual vMX. If you are familiar with basic networking, or the Meraki configuration, this is cake. We have another virtual SDWan appliance, and that was more difficult to stand up and get working properly.
When I joined our org, we were on a different platform. I was able to alleviate numerous network reliability and performance issues while providing a simple single pane of glass dashboard that non-networking staff could easily leverage. Meraki brings all the Cisco goodness, with a great UX for newcomers.
The VMware SD wan does give some better WAN metrics, but the interface is super clunky and doesn’t support a full stack. If Meraki could give some more QoE link metrics, it would be perfect.
