Overall Satisfaction with Cisco Routers

  • Cisco ISR 1000 Series
  • Cisco ISR 4000 Series
  • Cisco ASR 1000 Series
  • Cisco 900 Series Industrial ISR (IR 900)
We implemented multiple solutions with these devices in our customer networks. We mainly used them as aggregation routers for branches using different kinds of VPNs (GRE tunnel, DMVPN, etc.) A second extended use for these devices are as border routers against ISPs running partial or full BGP tables in dual-homed scenarios.

Pros

  • Routing protocols
  • HA protocols (HSRP, GLBP, VRRP)
  • NAT
  • Tunneling

Cons

  • Documentation about ESP/SPAs and the throughput can be confusing sometimes
  • Memory leak bugs

Do you think Cisco Routers delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Cisco Routers's feature set?

Yes

Did Cisco Routers live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Cisco Routers go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Cisco Routers again?

Yes

  • Positive: high performance
  • Positive: virtualization and security
  • Positive: high density of traffic
The compatibility with other vendors was not the main factor [in choosing] this specific vendor. We focused our choice mainly on performance. However, we have always had a good result from the compatibility perspective. Cisco, in general, is very strong in their compatibility in all their products and services with other vendor devices.
Cisco Routers are perfect to be used as an aggregation point for branches. We have used encrypted VPNs solutions to guarantee security and integrity. Tunneling Encryption with IPsec or link integrity and confidentiality using Macsec [is] one of the main features used in our solutions.
The availability of these devices is very high. When the solution in well designed and all the scalability and HA parameters (high redundancy protocols and SSO) are [well] considered, the access to the services and applications is very stable through the time.
As a Cisco partner, we had access to Cisco devices only. I can't offer this information.
These routers are perfect for modern carrier networks and the aggregation of remote sites (as edge devices in branch or Border routers against ISPs).
The ASRs Series are high density, power-efficient, and a very secure platform. It also [has] software virtualization capabilities that improve security, that devices have very good performance and are stable. Honestly, we didn't have problems during the implementation phases with them. They can also work well as fusion routers for the SD-Access solution, routing packets outside the fabric (to the DC or remote sites) using BGP and VRFs.
