As a Procurement Manager, I rely on D&B Hoovers to find and vet potential suppliers. A great deal of work can be avoided by having good information early in the process.
Pros
- Show competitors of existing suppliers (competitive sourcing)
- Avoid too small/over leveraged suppliers
- Be aware of potential supplier takeovers or other M&A activity
Cons
- Precision in company name search is a must - perhaps better assistance in the search?
- Some 3rd party integration would be helpful (companies on Gartner's magic quadrants, as an example)
- The service saves a great deal of work during RFPs - we can filter out nonqualified suppliers early in the process.
- We can usually find innovative IT suppliers that may not have the marketing budgets to reach corporations like ours... this leads to new relationships and "better fits."
