We use D&B Hoovers to pull prospecting lists for our clients who are looking to incur new clients based on specific niches, revenue range and title within a company. At times we find the information is somewhat outdated and requires us to do additional research prior to providing the information to our clients. I am the primary user of the platform.
  • Ease of Use
  • Large Database
  • Cost Effective
  • Outdated Company Information
  • Regularly Updating Research Reports
  • Make it easier to pull list previews
For our purposes, D&B Hoovers is a great tool. We can easily input the parameters we are looking for and pull the information we need for our client needs. It makes providing a list of prospects to our clients much easier and creates less work for us overall.

It is less appropriate for smaller businesses which can create issues.

We try and better understand corporate hierarchy structures. We use D&B Hoovers to compare and contrast with the information we have inside of our company's CRM.

The BI team is primarily using D&B Hoovers.
  • Layout
  • Data
  • Insight
  • Updating Site Locations Within Corporate Hierarchies
  • License Cost
  • Unexpected Shutdowns
D&B Hoovers is great if you are trying to better understand a corporate hierarchy structure for a target account. You can use it to compare the information to what you currently have in your CRM and look for expansion/upselling opportunities.

Less appropriate would be the contact information for people at a particular company you are evaluating.

Hoovers worked well for our purposes on lead generation and backfilling information about client companies.
  • Integrates with Salesforce.
  • Contains most needed information.
  • Has good information breadth.
  • Automation can be lacking.
  • Documentation not always clear.
  • Sometimes Salesforce integrations not always clear.
It is well suited to get more detailed information about some opportunities in Salesforce. An area that would have been a big win for my organization's needs is finding ways to better automate the integration of company demographics for very large lists of additional companies and opportunities. The automation part stands to be improved, at least for my organisation's use case.

We were looking to do several things in our Salesforce instance: Enhance customer data with firmographics (annual revenue, # of employees, industry, etc.) Validate data currently in the system Group customers by their corporate family Have a way to find new leads for the sales team We currently have the sales operations teams for the different business units using D&B Hoovers. They use it to validate the lead's information put in by the sales team. We also have a team uploading accounts to the D&B database to match and retrieve the firmographic information which then will be uploaded into Salesforce. It also helps with our hierarchy structure.
  • Appends firmographic information to accounts in Salesforce via an integrated service
  • Corporate hierarchy structures are the industry standard using the DUNS information
  • Providing a robust number of filters when searching the database to easily get to the information you are looking for
  • D&B Hoovers does not include the full D&B dataset and does not include out-of-business or non-marketable companies. As a result, if there was a match on the DUNS previously, but now the company is out-of-business, information can no longer be found in Hoovers.
  • Although the user interface was recently updated, certain elements are still not ideal like any custom views being created in the old UI not carrying over to the new UI and the inability to resize columns in grid views.
  • The search could be better when looking for companies based on the tradestyle name or being able to search by an address from the main search bar instead of having to put it in the filters
D&B Hoovers is excellent for enhancing lead data in Salesforce before it is approved to become and account or rejected. It allows it to be put in the proper hierarchy and can check for duplicate values as well If you are looking for potential accounts in a certain territory in a specific industry where their annual revenue is between a threshold and want to know that the site is the parent, D&B Hoovers makes that search process very easy Speaking of searches, they allow for saving searches with certain parameters so it will always be up to date with the companies meeting the criteria and won't become stale If you want to be kept up to date on specific types of news like mergers and acquisitions for the companies in the saved search list, you can opt to receive only those types of notifications Since D&B Hoovers only contains the active and marketable records, it is not ideal for your entire database of customers if you know you have some that are no longer in business If you want to keep all your data up to date constantly (like weekly or monthly), other solutions would be better.

Our sales team primarily uses D&B Hoovers to research prospective customers and new customers. It helps us verify important details about the strength of a new customer and their financial rating. As we research prospective customers by industry, it helps to identify potential contacts to begin our sales contact strategy.
  • Corporate information.
  • Contacts
  • Ability to search by industry, location, and company size.
  • Sometimes email addresses are not always available for contacts.
  • Company sales data can sometimes be outdated.
  • Company contacts can sometimes be outdated and no longer employed at the company.
D&B Hoovers provides a great database for searching company information and better understanding a new customer's ability to pay and sales potential. We have identified several customers as poor financial risks who have been challenging to initially work with. This has enabled us to maintain prepayment terms, rather than extend open terms and risk not being paid.

We use D&B Hoovers as a lead generation tool. It has been a very helpful tool in helping us find qualified leads that fit our appropriate demographics and locations. It has been especially helpful in finding contacts and companies that we had little insight into and has helped us qualify them as an appropriate leads.
  • Lead Generation.
  • List Management.
  • More information on smaller companies.
  • More up to date information.
D&B Hoovers is well suited for rounding out a contact or company list. It has a large database, and the information you are looking for can usually be found easily. Some information for smaller companies is not readily available, and there is sometimes out-of-date information listed. Overall, it is a great tool to find the company information you are looking for.

D&B Hoovers is one of the most helpful account and territory planning tools we use. The information provided as apart of the company reports gives us what we need to prepare at the beginning of a new sales process. D&B Hoovers provides background on revenue, sales, employee information, industry insights, M&A activity, company hierarchy structure, and more. It is a vital tool for preparing for new prospect meetings - quick, easy, and insightful.
  • Providing information on company contacts
  • Providing very close to accurate revenue numbers for private and public companies
  • Extremely easy to search and find companies regardless of size
  • Some information can be inaccurate if a company operations regionally or have a siloed business structure
  • Generic names (ex. Smith) can sometimes come back with bad information
  • Sometimes when M&A activity takes place it does not reflect on D&B Hoovers quickly
D&B Hoovers is very well suited for business development and sales personnel when working to prospect into new accounts or new divisions. It is a great tool to be prepared and have some background information when talking to a new company. Sometimes when a company has a complex hierarchal structure (ex. regions, industries), the information can be hard to dilute down to what the actual revenue or figures would be for those situations. In that case, it can be difficult to get accurate information and most often has to be confirmed and correct when talking to that company.

One consistent challenge I have has been working with the assigned representatives that have been assigned to my company's account. In my experience, they have not been reliable and I have to always make a huge effort to get information conveyed to me. The software itself is fine, but it's not intuitive to report information that needs to be updated. For example, sometimes websites that do not work are accounts pages. It is not clear where to report it, and once it was found, no one followed up about the issue being resolved.
  • The date base is easy to navigate.
  • I have been able to find information on most companies.
  • I like the option to be notified by email of any changes to a company that I save.
  • Better and clear communication for the tech. dept
  • Better and clear communication from the Hoover reps for customer accounts.
Please see my responses previously stated on my feedback on the previous page.

D&B Hoovers has been a great prospecting tool for our sales department. We will use this to look up companies' financial pre-screening, annual sales volume, and other pertinent information used to compile a lead generation list. One of the convenient features is being able to compile a large list based on industry codes and physical location. This has really helped us narrow down our searches and compile a lead list of quality leads and oftentimes provides contact information to get the initial conversation started. I have been using this for six years now and have been thankful for the continual updates to the platform. The ease of this platform is second to none! User-friendly even for those who are not technologically savvy.
  • Report building
  • Financial pre-screening
  • Lead generation
  • User-friendly interface
  • Up to date contacts
D&B Hoovers is a great prospecting tool for our sales department, with a nice and clean user interface. This product is very easy to use even for those who are technologically averse. Being able to search a specific location and industry makes for succinct searches and reports that help our business thrive.

Process Research & Optimization utilizes D&B Hoovers to research Client/Prospect information to update or "add to" our Salesforce CRM system for Sales/Marketing efforts.

In one place, D&B Hoovers provides current company information such as:
  • General Business description and history
  • Products & Operations associated with the company
  • Corporate Family (Subsidiaries; Major Business Units, etc.)
  • Corporate Overview
  • Company Identifiers (Hoovers, SIC, D-U-N-S Number, Federal EIN, etc.)
  • Corporate Highlights (Credit Risk Score, State of Incorporation, year founded, etc.)
  • SWOT Analysis (for success/growth, etc.)
  • Competitors
  • Closest Peers
  • Financials (Annual Reports, SEC Filings, etc.)
  • Excellent coverage of company history. Especially pertinent to those that have been merged or acquired.
  • Great coverage of corporate families, subsidiaries, and larger Business Units
  • More frequent updates of company data
  • A better method for user input to proactively request company updates or submit corrected info
D&B is best suited for creating a company prospect database for Sales/Marketing. Data Report generation by a wide variety of criteria (example: Size, Public/Private, Location, Industry, SIC Code, etc.) is very easy, as D&B Hoovers is very flexible and intuitive to work with. D&B Hoovers is not a good resource for creating a contact database within those prospect companies as the information is generally limited to C-suite executives and is only current as to the date created or last updated.
  • no training
I've used support only once or twice in nearly eight years.
Because it's easy to use
We're a small company with few users, so scalability has not been an issue.

Primary use is to obtain D&B Numbers and Federal Tax ID# of a customer; Company size and revenue; and UCC Filings.
  • Provides D&B Number.
  • Provides Annual Sales detail, company size.
  • Provides UCC Filing history.
  • Most companies do not include their Federal Tax ID#.
  • More detail on UCC filings would be nice.
Well suited for a first look at a company you are looking to do business with.

For a company like mine that constantly needs to be verifying business-related data, D&B Hoovers is an excellent tool and one we'd recommend. We evaluated many other tools for this purpose, and D&B Hoovers was the one best equipped to enable us to create very segmented lists using the dozens of filters they offer, including industry type, revenue, location, employee size, and even job title with/without verified email addresses. Given D&B's legacy as a top provider of business data, it's natural that Hoovers is the best tool for these specific reasons.
  • Granular segmented lists.
  • Smart lists that dynamically update automatically.
  • Verified data.
  • CRM integration.
  • Cost per record.
  • Better phone numbers.
D&B Hoovers is very well suited for generating segmented lists, pulling out the contacts associated with each business, and generating lists of verified emails. It is also useful in terms of syncing these lists with Salesforce (or other CRMs I'm sure) so the contacts are easy to view on the sales side. We would prefer if there were more phone numbers (other than general business numbers) for the individual prospects to maximize our chances of being able to reach them via methods other than email.

Through using Hoovers, my team attempt(ed) to address concerns in finding correct contacts, fit companies, and other important information to develop our pipeline. The program is used across the company, but particularly by me; marketing uses it to call from, analysts use it to compile lists, and management uses it to prepare for calls.
  • Comprehensive Set of Listings
  • Relevant Information
  • Multiple Ways to Search
  • Outdated Company Information
  • Outdated Company Ownership
  • Defunct Companies
When searching by SIC code, Hoovers is very useful when discovering new companies. You can search for companies by the code or industry, whether you start from the company page and built out from similar companies or are starting a fresh search. The breadth that one can obtain searchable and quantifiable lists is impressive.

I am researching background information for client pitches. The attorneys, marketing, and conflicts are all requestors of information.
  • Industry of companies.
  • Upper management.
  • Compiling lists.
  • Customer services takes too long to respond.
  • Company information is not accurate.
  • The company research reports are not current.
  • News could be better.
I use it to look for company information. Being able to compile a list is helpful. Sometimes there is very little on a company and I get a multi-paged report with only enough info to cover one page. Before OneSource merged with Hoovers, we were able to get company research reports. What is on there now is old or no information at all. I wish it had the quality of the information that was OneSource. It is not the first place I go for company information. I start with Capital IQ. The worse is when you need help with the website. You cannot speak directly to the person and the chatbot leaves a lot to be desired.

The biggest challenge D&B Hoovers helps me overcome is where our CRM is lacking in contact information. I can easily find names, positions, emails, and direct phone numbers. This has been integrated into our CRM so accessing additional information is quick and easy and I can even send the contact details directly to the CRM saving plenty of time.
  • Quick snapshot of company size
  • Quick snapshot of contact information
  • Organizing companies within industries and including revenue sizes
  • The recent change in appearance leaves some info, such as that in the UCC filing field out of sight.
  • Revenue sizes are sometimes off by several million dollars but things are updated frequently
  • I run into cookie browser issues where I have to clear all of my cookies to access information in my CRM - may not be related to D&B
I would recommend this product to anyone in the Business To Business sales industry because vital information on who to contact and how to contact them is contained and updated frequently. This is extremely helpful when integrated into a platform such as Salesforce. I would recommend finding a CRM with that capability if you don't have one already as this is an important factor in ensuring the right contacts are in the system and that new contacts are added as they become available.

We use it for company information (mostly private company info), OneStop Company reports for profiling, list building, industry information using industry codes, etc. The project delivery analyst team are the primary users of the subscription at our organization. We also use it for lead gen at times to plan our BD roadshows globally.
  • Private company information
  • List building using industry codes
  • OneStop snapshot company profiles
  • Numbers (financials) for companies
  • Analyst opinion
  • More news pieces
Well suited for some nuggets on obscure/small/private company information. Less reliable for updated financials. For example, at times, it provides inputs on tough-to-find information for private companies, but on the other hand, the data may be questionable given it is largely modeled. It would be good to have more reliable and validated numbers.

Our B2B sales teams need leads, and my job is to fill the sales funnel through email marketing and direct mail. I get my leads through the D&B Hoovers database and am able to drill down to the exact decision-maker I need to approach. Being able to not only have phone numbers but verified email addresses available makes my job easier.
  • Able to find target business decision makers
  • Able to select email addresses only
  • Sorting businesses through a variety of ways is helpful
  • Able to select titles "containing" specific words
  • We should be able to "exclude" words from titles or company names
  • Able to access titles and email addresses more easily - not look at list first, select find matching contacts button, then go back to sort to add titles contain and email addresses, etc. This is a two-step process to get what I need.
Building target lists are crucial in B2B sales. Having accurate information is extremely helpful. I find D&B Hoovers has the most accurate information out there that is continually updated throughout the year. The selection criteria are most helpful in building lists. I find downloading the information as an Excel file or CSV file easy to upload into my software for email marketing or direct mail lists to printers.

Challenges and opportunities addressed with the product:
Identifying contact details (with higher accuracy) of the prospects whom we want to target in our marketing campaigns. Finding out detailed financial and other firmographic and technographic information of a specific ICP company Primary users would be Market Analytics, SDR, and Marketing teams. The sales team uses it for finding company information and scoops.
  • Detailed company information (including financials, recent press releases, technologies used) for many companies
  • Ability to export all details into excel or PDF without any restrictions
  • Very good contact details' accuracy (emails plus mobile numbers)
  • UI looks like a bit archaic compared to few competitors
  • Revenue and few details are hard to find (The usability could be improved by having clear demarcation - sometimes only "sales" word is mentioned and thus we get confused it is gross sales, net sales, or what)
  • More in-depth details (budget, pain points, projects) specifically for the IT department would help companies like us
Well suited for organizations with a limited budget but still want best-in-place tool for prospecting outbound leads
Less appropriate for organizations for whom all the details they need to worry about is limited to a specific department, other than finance (Eg: IT department data is a bit limited, from the intelligence standpoint)

D&B is one of our best tools to identify, enrich, enhance our account data, duns numbers and all the related fields. I use it daily and it is great to improve the quality of our data. Account hierarchy, Duns, Immediate parent duns, domestic ultimate DUNS and Global Ultimate DUNS numbers are very important fields to be populated.
  • Identify DUNS numbers
  • Match a list
  • Enrich accounts/contacts in mass
  • identify possible account/contact duplication
  • better matching with government accounts
  • better matching with international accounts
  • standardization of countries by country codes
  • standardization of states by state codes
It has been of great help to identify/populate missing account data, identify possible duplicates, mass update missing fields.
Excellent customer support provided in a timely manner.
It is imperative to maintain our data as our biggest asset, for that D&B Hoovers does a great job.

We use D&B Hoovers' data extensively for 1. Calculating Total Addressable Market (TAM)- Company count and Employee Size 2. M&A Analysis - Shortlisting the targets based on parameters like Revenue, Region, PE backup, NAICS code, etc. 3. Extract contact details of prospect customers 4. Industry Analysis
  • Company data
  • Accurate contact details
  • Filter by NAICS code, SIC codes, and D&B Industry classification comes very handily to shortlist companies
  • Limited downloads based on credits
  • Data keeps changing (Not very significant though)
  • Better visualization of data (Charts, Graphs, timeseries etc.)
D&B Hoovers is very appropriate for quantitive analysis like TAM calculation, Accurate Company Info (Revenue, Employees, PE Owner, NAICS code), Extracting contact details of prospective customers, However, there is a scope for improvement with qualitative information. D&B Hoovers is not suited for qualitative market intelligence like news, deals insights, etc.

We used D and B Hoovers to source information about companies within our target demographic for new business sales. It was intended to provide us with an insight to information not readily available to the general public.
  • Organizes information in an easy to find manner
  • Offers Financial Information not easily found online
  • Give insight to the company structure
  • Keeping updated information. A lot of what we found ended up being out of date or no longer relevant.
  • Providing updates when changes occur on information already retrieved.
  • Updating hierarchies within companies listed and removing contacts no longer at the particular company.
Hoovers would be helpful in a scenario where you are looking for a general snapshot rather than detailed and specific or current information. If you are hoping to find a good conceptual image its great.

Marketing and Sales professionals in our organization use [D&B] Hoovers every day to research company data so we can update our CRM, discover news, and make business decisions. We rely on [D&B] Hoovers for company information such as revenue, number of employees, DUNS number, address, SIC code, and industry, as well as hierarchy and company family structure.
  • Corporate family/hierarchy: very detailed, up-to-date, and super useful
  • OneStop reports are a great way to give Sales a glance into a prospect
  • Industry and SIC codes are very useful and usually accurate
  • Signals are not terribly useful
  • Foreign companies are more often out-of-date
  • Could be easier to create lists
[D&B] Hoovers is great for researching company hierarchies. When I need to see a large company structure, including what and where the parents, ultimate parents, and holding company are, I trust D & B Hoovers. I like the Expand All feature very much, allowing me to search for a particular company name, city, state, or country in seconds. However, I often find out-of-date information for foreign companies.

We use D&B Hoovers to update account data such as revenue, employee count, industry, and SIC code. We use SIC codes to align territories to different sales reps at the company.

We also do account-based marketing and search for account intelligence on D&B Hoovers to go through previous earnings and such.

Triggers are used at an Enterprise level to find reasons to reach out.
  • Industry/SIC code alignment
  • Account data such as revenue
  • Find more Triggers for SMB accounts
  • Better contact data
D&B Hoovers is great if you're looking for a company to help update Salesforce account data regularly, and to use this to align industries to your sales reps.

It's not great if you're looking for contact data or account insights for reasons to reach out while prospecting.

I'd recommend it for larger accounts.
