Db2 on cloud

Overall Satisfaction with Db2

IBM's Db2 on Cloud has been our primary DBMS software since our migration to the cloud. Our use of Db2 extends across various functions within the organization, including student and employee data management, ERP backend (for enterprise resource planning), transaction processing, and analysis. The scope encompasses the entire lifecycle of our educational and administrative processes, showcasing Db2's versatility and reliability in supporting a large and complex institution.
  • Can easily be scaled to growing data volumes.
  • Seamless integration with ERPs.
  • Optimizing queries.
  • High availability, minimum downtime.
  • Built in analytics functions would be useful.
  • Real-time monitoring and alerting can be improved.
  • Support/Documentation.
  • Ease of use.
  • Increased process automation.
  • Reduced costs.
  • Enhanced data security.
Db2 is known for its robust scalability features. The scalability of Db2 has been a key factor in adapting to the evolving needs of our organization, handling the increasing data loads seamlessly. Our DB2 implementation spans multiple departments and sites with data of more than a hundred thousand students.
The database is a critical component of any organization. During our tenure of use, we haven't yet faced any issues related to availability. All thanks to its automated backups, database partitioning, and failover support. It has helped us incorporate reliable LMS for students and seamless administrative functions.
Db2 is more scalable, reliable, and easily configurable than all the products that we evaluated. We were already using some of the services provided by IBM and were satisfied with the support and pricing. This led us to select Db2 as our database management system.

Do you think Db2 delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Db2's feature set?

Yes

Did Db2 live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Db2 go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Db2 again?

Yes

Db2 is well suited for large-scale relational data management, transaction-intensive environments, and complex workloads. It excels in scenarios where there is a need for integration with enterprise applications. It is less recommended in cases where deployments are small-scale with minimal data management, transaction loads are simple, or resources are constrained. In all these cases, a simpler DBMS solution is recommended.

Using Db2

20 - Team members of the following group/department use DB2 in our organization:
1. Planning/IT dept.
2. Exam cell
3. Student section
4. Accounts dept.
While write/update intensive queries are run by Student section and Accounts department, Planning/IT department uses the relational data for analysis.
5 - A subgroup of IT department handles the support for IBM based software, which includes DB2. The group consists of 2 on IT assistants (diploma in IT), 2 IT engineers (Bachelors in CS/IT) and a manager.
Skills required include basic knowledge of shell, SQL queries, RDBMS and familiarity with cloud computing interface.
Db2 has been a key part of our transition from on premise to cloud based system. Our system has been reliable (with no downtime) and hassle free. It has helped us incorporate LMS (learning management system) for students and seamless administrative functions.

  • Integration with ERP
  • Use of views in LMS
AI/ML is highly impacting work that we do. AI/ML features of Db2 has not only brings results of complex queries on large dataset in a blink of an eye, but also reduced the manpower required to manage the database. Performance of this database is therefore far better than its competitors.
  • Integrating Db2 with internal software of different institutes.
  • Provisioning custom sandboxes for students to learn SQL.
Db2 fits the best to our requirements and the price. It has been easy and intuitive to set up and get running. As we have been using other IBM services, our experience has been seamless. We haven't faced any downtime till date. Also, its performance is solid and can handle complex queries easily.
