Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox
We use Dropbox in lieu of maintaining an internal shared drive. This requires less IT resources but does not compromise accessibility. In fact, it is probably more flexible because it makes it easy to share resources with those on the periphery of our organization such as board members. Dropbox makes it easy to restrict file access to the appropriate parties and to add new users as needed. The best part is that it can be used within Windows Explorer just like a local directory and it can also be used in the web interface on a remote computer. The former option makes it easy to upload and edit files in most cases. The latter option allows access to files when working away from the normal workstation.
Pros
- Flexibility
- User management
- Integration with Windows file structure
Cons
- File sharing process could be more intuitive.
- Adding additional users tends to be expensive.
- Web interface is sometimes confusing.
- Easier collaboration.
- Good system for backing up important files.
- Makes file transfer easier.
