Overall Satisfaction with Dropbox for Business

Dropbox for Business is being used organization wide, but primarily by marketing and sales orgs that are still somewhat dependent on Excel, Word, PDFs etc., and haven't 100% adopted Google Apps for everything (which is also part of our tool set). It's provides a nice balance of feeling like a traditional file system and having access to files even when you're offline, but also the flexibility of cloud solutions through easy sharing and permission setting, plus the ability to access on the web when required.
  • Selective synchonization is a great feature, because the reason you copy 10GB of video files in to the cloud is to remove them from taking up space on your device...so you don't want them to sync back to the device again.
  • In the Mac OS, being able to copy a link directly from the context menu on any DropBox file from within finder makes it very simple to share.
  • Having the ability to share links that expire after a number of days, or force passwords on shared links, adds a layer of security for more sensitive files.
  • Sometimes someone uploads a massive amount of data to a folder you sync, and therefore it attempts to sync to your devices...potentially filling up your entire free space. It would be great of there was a warning if suddenly there was a data sync of more than 1GB to give you some sort of option not to sync.
  • Dropbox has allowed our business to grow without costly expenditure around storage infrastructure, backups etc.
I'm actually a OneDrive fan and use it personally. I think DropBox and OneDrive for Business stack up fairly reasonably. Both can integrate directly with most Microsoft products now. One thing I've found is the DropBox sync seems to be solid, whereas OneDrive sync can often "break" on the client and you have to re-install or re-configure the client.
Dropbox for Business is well suited to organizations looking to replicate a more traditional client-server file server type environment for their users, and where adopting something like Google Apps or Sharepoint Online maybe be a difficult step for users.
