Overall Satisfaction with Dynatrace
AppMon is used across pockets of infrastructure teams predominantly at the OS level. For the applications space, it is mostly used by the web team for web services and distributed services. It is not widely being consumed due to lack of skills and training. The business issues are really about solution performance and solution stability so the value is really for the IT teams to provide a better overall user experience and less downtime. We are not leveraging the full power, just critical areas for critical times.
Pros
- Response time insights across components of a distributed set of solution components, end to end views very good
- Basic metrics coming off systems to look quickly for issues
- Diagnostics and triage for complex issues given the number of insights views and the tooling can provide
Cons
- Engaging and training users....too much focus on purchase sponsors and infrastructure teams, leaving a large community of potential users with no understanding of the capabilities or even where it is installed and deployed
- Some of the functionality is coming with the 2019 enablement on the way...great progress.
- Pricing.....make it cheaper for wider consumption and make training part of the equation.
- Much improved response capability for critical systems and crisis management
- We have not focused on ROI since we use it mostly for crisis management and response
We also use CA’s Wily for many years with success. Also use open source alternatives because of the expensive pricing from Dynatrace. Dynatrace would be the preferred for a capability perspective but too expensive to use broadly.
