Overall Satisfaction with Fivetran

A useful tool for ETL/ELT pipelines, it automatically pushes and loads data from sources to destinations, saving me time. I've also used it to perform some SQL data transformations and ingest data into data warehouses like DBT and Snowflake. It also automatically updates when the schema is changed, which is a nice feature. This may be the best option because gathering data manually from numerous sources can take a lot of time. Data Mapping capabilities work smoothly and the data is always in sync. Can easily trace down the issues via the logs and debug the problems too. Use it quite a few times in a week for collecting data and ingesting it to different sources either snowflake for transformations that are have more complex logic or get the data into Tableau to perform some analysis, reporting, while presenting dashboards to drive decisions.

Pros

  • Create ELT/ETL pipelines
  • Automatic Schema detection changes
  • Ingestion of data
  • Transformation of data
  • Integration with various sources
  • Huge range of Connectors
  • Minimizes manual work thanks to its automation

Cons

  • Support for connectors like Microsoft 365
  • Built-in dashboarding/reporting analytics
  • Price can be high as the data increases immensly
  • Data collection
  • Data Transformation
  • ETL Pipelines
  • High number of reliable connectors
  • Saves time
  • Improved Decision making
  • Can scale quickly instead of complex manual builds
  • Airbyte
Airbyte does not have the vendor lock-in which offers for more flexibility for custom connectors for your data but that is not a very big advantage as custom connectors are very specific to usecases. Fivetran's connectors are more in number than Airbyte and are more trusted and realiable to use. Access sources via single sign-in saves time than accessing data with APIs. Also Fivetran has better support and a huge community compared to the alternative with lots of paid users too. Even the documentation is well provided with all the API integrations given for reference.

Do you think Fivetran delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Fivetran's feature set?

Yes

Did Fivetran live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Fivetran go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Fivetran again?

Yes

FIvetran is suitable for small to medium sized pipelines and when the data is not extremely large for transformations. Sometimes when we sync large tables of data in which we do not need all the data present in it can increase the cost up. For complex logical transformations, we can go ahead with snowflake etc...It is also a challenge to make our own custom connectors and can be tough to also maintain them by ourselves.
