Overall Satisfaction with GiveSmart

Our organization uses GiveSmart for our in-person event in Chicago, which sees about 500 guests per event. The main reasons we chose GiveSmart over other technology options are that the price is reasonable, and it offers different user types, meaning we can have our 50+ volunteers each log in to check people in, sell raffle tickets, help people check out, etc.

Pros

  • Allowing for multiple user types/roles
  • Letting donors cover the fees, and keeping those fees more reasonable
  • Very simple check in process which keeps lines moving
  • Relatively simple donation process

Cons

  • Lack of customization options when building each page. The website winds up not looking all that professional.
  • The reporting functionality is not very helpful at all. This is a main area of improvement we've asked for.
  • Better customization of emails and texts through GiveSmart. Right now, they are limited, and you can't make them look very nice.
  • The process of logging back into your account as a ticket purchaser or donor is very confusing. Most guests don't even know they can log in to access their tickets, make another donation, etc.
  • This is difficult to gauge. Frankly, I think most software programs would have given us the same return during our event.
  • Perhaps if the communications within GiveSmart were a little more functional, we would have used them more and tried to get more donations via mobile devices.
  • The lack of reporting customization options and general functionality really limit our ability to analyze the data we collect from our events.
OneCause has much of the same functionality, but GiveSmart was less expensive, which is why we went with them. Classy looks much more polished and has a lot more customization options - both on the user-facing end and the reporting/data/back end - but does not let us have user roles for each volunteer who helps at our event. It was for that fact alone that we could not use it for our event, though we do use it for other smaller events, peer to peer fundraising, and for our general donation capture on our website.
Overall, GiveSmart does what it needs to in order for us to host an in-person event. However, it doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles. There are some great features - the user roles and the quick donation capture for paddle raises, for example - but the lack of customization in certain areas like page building, communications, and reporting are frustrating.
Support is generally pretty quick and efficient via the chat function. Unfortunately, most of the instances where I've reached out to support, the answer is that the functionality I'm asking for doesn't exist. The support techs always try to find a workaround, but there isn't always one to be had.

Did implementation of GiveSmart by Momentive go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy GiveSmart by Momentive again?

Yes

GiveSmart definitely works for large in-person ticketed events which also involve auctions, paddle raises, and more. The workflow is relatively easy for guests, and especially for volunteers. We especially like how quickly you can add paddle raise donations to specific people's paddle numbers because it allows us to track in real time. The seating functionality has some odd quirks, but overall it works. We opted not to use it for our main donation capture organization-wide because it doesn't look as professional, nor is it as customizable, as some other options on the market.
