Overall Satisfaction with Google Slides

We use Google Slides for internal and occasionally for external presentations. I sometimes use Google Slides to more creatively and intuitively create graphs, charts, graphics, and tables, since I like that you can move elements more flexibly than you can in a document. Presentations help visualize information, which we use internally for company goal setting, and externally for client and partner presentations.

Pros

  • Intuitive, simple templates
  • Easy to add transitions
  • Google Sheets compatible with graph and chart syncing

Cons

  • I wish it were easier to automatically align and standardize formatting, for example, being able to align all headings so they are identically formatted on every slide
  • More sophisticated template themes
  • A built-in icon library
  • Included in Google Suite, and no upgrades needed so very cost effective
  • Easy sharing, commenting, and time-stamped editing/versioning make for easy collaboration, saving time and employee resources
  • Google Slides has helped us reach client/partner deliverable deadlines
Google Slides is very easy and intuitive for creating simple, straightforward presentations. Its limitations make for less decision making. Being part of the Google Suite makes for easy sharing and collaboration, auto-saving, and time-stamped versions/edit history. However, unlike a platform like Canva, there's no icon library, photos, graphics, or elements built-in, so if you're wanting more creative designs, you have to import or create yourself.
Canva is my choice for creating creative, unique, professional presentations, as they have a built-in library with icons, elements, charts, and graphics. It's easier to create beautiful charts and graphs on Canvas, but more advanced data may be better set up in Google Sheets then imported into Google Slides. Beautiful AI has better transitions and is more automated with AI prompting, but Google Slides is more cost effective. I find Google Slides simpler, but more usable than PowerPoint, and appreciate the sharing and collaboration potential of Google Slides.

I'd recommend Google Slides for someone who uses the Google Suite, as Google Sheets integration is nice. It's intuitive and can be easy and quick to throw together a Slides presentation when needed. Google Slides is nice for simple presentations, with enough functionality to become client-ready and professional enough for external use. However, it tends to produce simpler presentations, with limited built-in templates that are easily identifiable, so they don't have a very creative, sophisticated 'wow factor'. The same goes for the transitions, as they're easily identifiable and simple.
