Overall Satisfaction with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)

We use Google Workspace as full suite solution for our needs including email, authentication to an in-house database, creating documents, spreadsheets, slide presentations for talks, etc. We make use of Google Drive to share files between workers and to communicate with our Board of Trustees. Google Workspace is at the heart of our inter-office communications.

Google offers a free version of Google Workspace for non-profits. So the price was pretty hard to beat. Of cloud based office communications platforms, Google offers a robust variety of tools. I find that I can trust the reliability of Google and did not have to worry about too much additional training for my users since they were already familiar with GMail.

Google Workspace is well suited for helping to organize a small business. I primarily implemented this as our office communications platform because of GMail. Being able to easily create accounts for staff and assign aliases makes transitions easy to manage. When the bookkeeper changes I just change the alias from the old bookkeeper to the new one and all of the emails that need to get to the bookkeeper now get delivered. Sharing documents and working collaboratively is also made easy with Google Drive.

Evaluating Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and Competitors

Yes - I replaced Microsoft Office 365 with Google Workspace. I replaced them to save money but also because I found the email service to be better to work with. In particular, I like the shortcuts in GMail that allow me to quickly process incoming email, label them and reply. Google Drive was also a good replacement for OneDrive.

  • Prior Experience with the Product
Price was one of the most important factors. Google is generous with non-profits so we were able to save a significant amount of money by switching to a free product rather than paying subscriptions for each of our employees. I had previous experience working with Google Workplace that made supporting the staff easier.
I really would not change anything. My experience of migrating to Google Workplace went smoothly. The company was able to save money and now has an effective tool for communications, sharing documents, and working more collaboratively. The workflow for our staff was greatly streamlined. Focusing on efficiency would be my recommendation.

Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) Support

My experiences of getting support have been positive. Calling in is not overly difficult, but it does require getting a PIN. The knowledge of those responding to the calls has been impressive. I have managed to work with them to fix two Google bugs that I had identified. These bugs required a some technical expertise and the support staff were able to understand the issue and forward the concerns to the appropriate persons. The first bug was fixed with 24 hours. The second bug took a little longer, but it was also more complicated to reproduce.

No, I did not purchase premium support; however, as a non-profit we enjoy some pretty good support and functionality at no cost. Google is most generous when it comes to supporting non-profits. Support is rarely needed; however, when I have called it has almost always been a positive experience with a quick resolution.
Yes - Yes, as mentioned, I managed to find two bugs since using Google Workspace. Both issues were dealt with quickly. It helped that I had enough experience in reporting bugs because of my experience working in the open source community. In one case, I knew how to fix the error. In the other I had an idea of what was happening but relied on the experts to deal with what appeared to be a caching issue.
I was migrating email from another email provider and Google Support was able to give me some options for how I could migrate the existing emails into the Google emails. This made the migration a much better experience for the users as they had access to previous emails. I was delightfully surprised by how easy the migration ended up being as I was anticipating it being a painful process, but it turned out to be relatively painless.
