Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers
We utilize IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers to run custom Ubuntu servers. The entire company's dashboard application, which supports both clients and our own operations, is run through these servers. We needed IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers to run our custom stack back in 2014, and we have been utilizing them ever since.
Pros
- Extremely high reliability
- Monitoring was easy to setup
- Internal networking is fast
Cons
- Maintenance takes Bare Metal offline at unusual times
- Support is not always reachable
- IBM Cloud Dashboard is not the fastest
- Highly reliable; we operate at all times of the day
- Maintenance without warnings has created business continuity issues
- There was a severe outage in mid 2020 for five hours that cost us 40 man-hours to fix
We run Elasticsearch using these machines, and it performs great. We have zero complaints with the performance of the machines in regard to being able to handle large loads of client and end-user data. The security of the IBM Cloud allows us to enhance our datasets with the mindfulness of knowing that our data is secure.
It is a bit slower than what I am used to with AWS, Azure, and even Hewlett-Packard.
