Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cognos

IBM Cognos used across my whole organization from everything related to operation reporting to financial reporting that gets seen by C-level personnel. The key problem that IBM Cognos addresses is the data or information visibility problem that exists between the boardroom and the factory floor.
  • IBM Cognos used was used to for automated delivery of reporting for backorders of specialty products that needed special handling by the customer service department.
  • IBM Cognos used was used to for pixel perfect reporting that was part of the month-end or year-end executive board book.
  • IBM Cognos was used to deliver external reporting to customers/vendors/distributors to check on the health of the rented equipment.
  • IBM Cognos could use an update on the backend side, it does well in the cloud, but a switch to RestAPIs for data access would be nice.
  • IBM Cognos could have better documentation on the proven practice configuration of components on lesser used OSs.
There are a number of reporting systems, but these other systems are really data visualization systems that lack the ability deliver information through an enterprise on their own. IBM Cognos is well suited to be the delivery system for an enterprise's analytics and the solutions ability to access and model data from a wide range of on-premise and cloud data sources makes it best-of-breed when it comes to implementation flexibility.
IBM Cognos's ability to access and model data from a wide range of on-premise and cloud data sources makes it best-of-breed when it comes to implementation flexibility. For example, with IBM Cognos I can have one analytics solution that pulls data from Hyperion Planning (Oracle) and Microsoft Dynamics (MM) into the same report in cases where a company is the result of M&A and investment into an EDW has not yet been made.
IBM Cognos's ability to control what a user can access and do gives implementation flexibility. For example, with IBM Cognos I can have multiple LDAP domains to secure the analytics solution that allow subsidiaries of a large corporation to access the same report but have the user's data and role level access determine what the report shows as well as how the report looks.
IBM Cognos is well suited to be the delivery system for an enterprise's analytics and the solutions ability to access and model data from a wide range of on-premise and cloud data sources makes it best-of-breed when it comes to implementation flexibility.
