Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cognos Analytics

We used IBM Cognos Analytics as our reporting solution for our application through API.

Pros

  • Ongoing release and upgrades
  • Customer support
  • scalable solutions

Cons

  • Easily reach out of support from helpdesk
  • Too expensive
  • Too much additional paid services like performance tuning, API, etc...
  • Limited governors control on multi-tenant
  • regular support do not cover API support
  • easy upgrade between different IBM Cognos versions
None, we only use Report Studio from API
We are planning to introduce business user self-service for future release.
IBM Cognos allows governors at system level, model/package level and report level security controls, but it is lacking control by tenants. e.g. many system level governors like high/low affinity processes or max processes cannot have different settings per tenant.
There are many options to deliver dynamic and multi-page reports for HTML when it only load first page. There are performance issue for large dataset in PDF or Excel output.
