Overall Satisfaction with IBM Maximo Application Suite

We primarily use IBM Maximo for asset management and inventory control across our multiple departments, but it didn't start that way. We initially deployed it at one plant for maintenance scheduling, and within half a year, it had become a vital operation for us. We currently use it on a daily basis to track office assets and warehousing inventory, and to directly integrate with newly developed procurement workflows.

Pros

  • Greater visibility across our assets.
  • The preventive maintenance plan is very customizable.
  • The responsive support team fixed a critical issue within the software just a week after reporting it.

Cons

  • The interface is not friendly, and it took a lot of time for our team to get comfortable with it.
  • Sometimes updates can led to unexpected lag and downtime.
  • It has many useful modules and features, but it is not well known, and I only recently found it after I was actively searching for it.
  • Great at scheduling and real-time alerts.
  • Helped us catch several major equipment failures before they happened.
  • Increases our efficiency and the reduces the need for reactive maintenance.
For us, it’s been about tying up with the Maximo suite and other enterprise applications—say, syncing with our legacy procurement system, which put everything under one umbrella. Plus, the reporting that Maximo can do has helped our leadership get some insight they never imagined they would require. Also, another personal win—I’m no longer moving back and forth with Excel sheets and guesswork to track asset lifecycles.
We shifted from a reactive maintenance model to predictive maintenance, something that we had been discussing for years, but never had been able to do. Maximo made it real, and we've also standardized inventory tracking across seven of our departments, which is no longer siloed and error-prone. My favorite is that in an audit last quarter, we had every asset report and maintenance log pulled in minutes, which had never happened before.
