Overall Satisfaction with Jetbrains Space

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

All of the code I write for my clients is private, so needs to be hosted in private repositories. Other git hosting companies have the ability to make private repositories, but at an additional cost. I use Jetbrains Space because it doesn't have this ability, which gives me confidence in their security.

I also use at least 5 other JetBrains applications, and am able to connect directly to Jetbrains Space for managing the repos.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Great repository management interface
Easy to use and navigate projects
Easy user management, with permission-based tools
Connecting from multiple endpoints makes testing a breeze

Cons

The move to Jetbrains SpaceCode could have been smoother
There are missing API endpoints in Jetbrains SpaceCode
The Jetbrains SpaceCode API documentation is not working as expected

Return on Investment

I feel secure with Jetbrains Space, as a project management tool.
I feel secure using Jetbrains Space internally to manage my code
Being able to access Jetbrains Space from all my projects, regardless of language is a huge plus. Even my documentation is covered.

Usability

I'd give it a 10, but everyone should find improvements in their solutions. I feel much more secure using Jetbrains Space as my git hosting source, than I do with any other, and I've used a few over the last 20 years.
The general usability is great. The eco-system is fantastic, and the abundance of tools gives you everything you need.

Alternatives Considered

GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket and Visual SourceSafe (Discontinued)

With the other software I've tried, they solve many issues, Jetbrains Space solves them all by being a complete all-round solution for every level, from management, to support, to the developers. The other tools have some of these things, but I never felt comfortable using the whole system as a complete source of project tools, often ending up using tools from multiple vendors.

Likelihood to Recommend

Jetbrains Space is great for teams. Managers can set up projects, assign team members and permissions, kick off a ticketing board for user requests. Then team leads can set up the repos within the project. As a team tool Jetbrains Space has everything a team needs to manage a project, and a separate of concerns with the users and permissions.

Jetbrains Space is not so great for individuals. As an individual I've found it difficult to get to grips with some areas of Jetbrains Space and burned far too much time getting things set up. While this is not strictly on JetBrains, it would be nice if they could consider this and build out some blueprints for using the system.
