Overall Satisfaction with Lifesize Video Conferencing

We had several problems at the initial implementation of the systems, constantly needed updates or resets 3 - 4 years ago. It could have been the fault of the AV installation company we hired or lack of experience using a new tech then. Currently it runs much smoother due it being cloud based and compatible with a wide range of non-Lifesize systems.
Emerson College Boston campus has 4 Lifesize units installed, 2 in class rooms and 2 in conference rooms, we mainly use them to communicate with our LA campus (they have 2 rooms with Cisco systems) or guests on the Lifesize Cloud app. The Lifesize Cloud app is easy to use since it is web based and guests don't need to hassle with much sign-up/ installation restrictions. Last semester a weekly class communicated across the country (Boston - LA) and shared presentations using the Lifesize system with some ease (we had minor audio feedback issues but it seemed to be from the LA side using the Cisco system) but overall it was successful.
  • We used a laptop to host a Lifesize Cloud session at a remote location, the participants were able to join with ease on their laptops.
  • Creating cloud rooms and dial-in instructions are really simple.
  • In my experience the connection is steady and video quality is better than expected.
  • The in-room control unit can be hard to navigate with so many detailed menus.
  • Having to whitelist certain IP addresses on a regular basis can be annoying.
We have recommended using Lifesize Cloud Video Conferencing for our board meeting for multiple distance participants and it worked really well since they only have to follow an URL to dial in without complicated instructions. We tested using the iPhone/iPad app as well and it was just as simple to join the room, but those tend to have dropped video frames since they rely on the wifi or data network of the phone company.

Lifesize Video Conferencing Reliability

Lifesize has expanded its cloud video conferencing and I foresee it going that direction instead of room to room hardware. We currently have no plan to add or upgrade any of our in room systems but having the ability to connect room to cloud or cloud to cloud is an excellent feature from Lifesize.
