Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Magnolia in my company is used for developing external facing websites. It is not used by the whole organization and it is developed and maintained by collaboration of few teams from different departments. It addresses hosting sites in a platform which can be used by users in a[n] effective way.

Pros and Cons

Permissions for a site.
Out of box functionality for email notifications.
Marketing automation module.
Content apps.

Must improve logs for issues and errors.
UI - Magnolia 6.

Return on Investment

Website speed is good.
Definitely improvements in page load times.
Upgrades takes longer especially if it's a major version upgrade.

Usability

Though Magnolia has lot of positive sides to it, sometimes I feel clueless with some issues with only the documentation and no help from other users of Magnolia. It will be nice to have a forum, where users can post a question and get answers for rather than surfing through the magnolia documentation which has a simple scenario explained. But doesn't cover the case if it needs to be customized.

Performance

Haven't worked with integrating Magnolia with any other system but pages load quickly and performance is good. I should also note that having more logging functionality for errors will help resolve the issues more effectively and efficiently. Also easy upgrades for major versions will be saving lot of time. Some features in Magnolia 5 are not working in Magnolia 6 which is making the upgrade harder.

Alternatives Considered

MS SharePoint, ServiceNow DevOps and ASP.NET

Magnolia is mainly used in our organization for sharing content externally which is why it is stacked up high compared to other products in the list.

Likelihood to Recommend

Magnolia is well suited in a scenario where lot of people are using a same site. Permissions can be set and locked down to the level for each person.

Less appropriate in conditions such as creating new accounts for people. If there was a single sign on option, it would be nice.
