Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Matillion is being used as an on-premise ETL by our Data and Analytics team. Matillion has been a great tool for our organization from an ETL standpoint. It is scalable and flexible enough to accomplish any task we need to do. Matillion support is also spot on, timely, and responsive. Will work through any problem with you--whether it be you or them. They will see it through.

Usability

The usability of Matillion is great. Their UI makes sense and has built-in documentation. Additionally, they have mounds of documentation on their website.

Time to Value

The learning curve for Matillion is relatively low. It is a great product and allows you to draw out a data flow diagram. Within 6 months, I was becoming fluent and efficient with using Matillion to collect and transform data into our Data Warehouse.

Scalability

We have been able to use Matillion in our Data Science projects to successfully accomplish data science related tasks.

Alternatives Considered

Microsoft BI

I have used Microsoft SSIS in the past to collect, transform, and organize data. SSIS is harder to learn the details of. Additionally, it is harder to follow and understand. SSIS documentation is lacking and does not have relevant documentation in the product. You must google everything.

Other Software Used

Looker, Tableau Desktop, PyCharm

Likelihood to Recommend

Matillion has many ETL options that allow you to collect data in a multitude of different ways. If one way doesn't work as desired, there is almost always a second option, and lastly, collect it via a Python script. Matillion documentation is great, easy to follow, and specific.
