Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Matillion ETL as an orchestrator, source ingestor and partially as a transformation tool. We utilize its connectors to query multiple sources, organize these pulls into neat interconnected flows and run initial transformations. Additionally, we use the native Git integration to have a proper development pipeline with the CI/CD flow.

Matillion was the reason behind our data driven company culture
With Matillion we were able to fully utilize our data and even offer it as a service to our clients

Data Productivity

Yes, we certainly noticed that our ability to deliver data projects more efficiently increased over the years of using Matillion as our primary ETL tool. Given our data history, starting from Spreadsheets and reporting software, we were able to 4x, maybe 5x our delivery speed and overall efficincy in regard to data ingestion and report delivery.

As a decently size company, Celtra has access to a large array of both internal and external services / pools of data that has a tendency to accumulate over time. With Matillion we were able to start utilizing it, and over the years expending this usage, making our data more available, of better quality and crucially, more visible to everyday users within our company.

Reliable Data Delivery

Matillion is an easy to use, but hard to master tool that can be used by anyone, regardless of their seniority or knowledge of SQL / Data architecture. The UI elements dispel some complexity around source processing and serve as a nice visual aide to help building the data pipeline. The whole process is less talent dependent and more content dependent which is exactly the type we strive to see.

The stakeholders in our organization are not directly involved with use of Matillion, or even management of talent around this tool. Although that is the case, Matillion helped us bring relevant data and insights to these stakeholders, empowering their decision making and silently driving growth / improvements across all sectors. I strongly believe that part of the organizations success lies on the shoulders of Matillion.

Usability

As I've mentioned previously, the low-code tools are designed to be usable by all team members due to their intuitive use and easy to follow connections. Although the documentation around them could be a bit better, the tools are still fairly easy to use and should be a good complement for any organization

Likelihood to Recommend

Great: Need to query simpler APIs, or utilize well known services such as GSheets etc.? Matillion has got some of the best and easiest to use connectors out there.

Not so great: Do you need have a competent CI/CD flow that you will be able to update / compare from Matillion as well as other sources at the same time? Good luck, you will need to be extra careful, as you might have to have a deeper dive into your servers Terminal each time you have a git conflict.
