Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Entra ID

Basically we use it for identity management and authentication. It solves the problem of obviously identifying users. We utilize it to separate different employee departments into groups, which helps us with device management as well. And so the specific scope pretty much is global, allows us to bring in guest users, allows us to administrate users through all the other Microsoft products such as SharePoint, office tools, things of that nature, exchange, Outlook.

Pros

  • It does identity management and two factor authentication. Well, we haven't had any issues with that.

Cons

  • Probably the most primary thing is just the interface itself. It's frequently changing and so oftentimes we kind of have to go back and redocument our processes for our IT staff because the steps that they would take to perform a task one month. Now it's a totally different staff, new dashboard, even a new name for the product or the feature. So it would be nice if that stuff was a little bit more consistent.
  • I don't know if I can really quantify that. It's one of those products that just exists and so there's not a whole lot of changes that we need to make with the product. And so I guess in terms of value, what we get is we don't have to worry about the identity management piece. We know that that's taken care of.
We're a hybrid deployment, so we're using Legacy active directory with Ad Connect, so we're transitioning all of our legacy ad accounts to the cloud.
We do not use it to secure non-Microsoft apps except in the sense of, I'm not sure if that question is referencing single sign on integrations. If so, then yes, we use it for single sign on.
So for single sign, it's a large number. Our AWS infrastructure, 15five , Slack, our Atlassian products, there's a very, very large number. Any tool that we have that can implement SSO through Entra ID, we integrate it.
No changes. I think people are just generally used to it.
Google Workspace is really pretty much the only other primary competitor. And again, Microsoft has just been the standard for so many years and it was in place at the organization when I was first brought on at the beginning of my tenure. And so it didn't seem logical to switch products at that time.

Do you think Microsoft Entra ID delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Microsoft Entra ID's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft Entra ID live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Microsoft Entra ID go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Entra ID again?

Yes

Definitely well suited for enterprise identity management. Just makes sense to use that tool because it's been the standard for so many years. Businesses that may not be ready for an enterprise level product might not be for them just due to cost. So there might be some more cost efficient and effective ways to perform the same tasks.

Using Microsoft Entra ID

Simply because of what I mentioned earlier, the feature set sort of keeps changing and they do a lot of, they integrated with a lot of the other tools and so for users who are not as well seasoned, it may be a little bit more complicated for them to begin working within the tool.
