Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI

We are currently using Power BI for all reporting and analysis across multiple functions, including Finance, Commercial, Clinical and Operations. There are several other groups that use Power BI with a more adhoc approach, focused on ensuring prompt resolution of ongoing issues and rapid remediation. Visibility to real-time or close to real-time data are the primary business problems solved by Power BI, particularly across multiple disparate systems.
  • Adhoc analysis.
  • Seamless user experience with the O365 environment.
  • Features and capabilities that are best in class.
  • Learning curve is greater than other (less-robust) platforms.
  • Proactive identification of business risks.
  • Prompt clarification of root cause.

Would you buy Microsoft Power BI again?

Yes

Overall, I have been very impressed with the Power BI offering, in particular the focus on integration with the overall Microsoft stack and rapidity of execution. We use the platform across multiple business groups to solve many different challenges, and have often expanded the use case dramatically to ensure full utilization of tour investment. The fact that Power BI Pro is included in the standard E5 license offering is another significant cost saving measure relative to other platforms.
Support has been excellent. I can't say enough about the training that's available from Microsoft directly, and online. It's truly a Power to the People type of platform. Direct tickets to Microsoft can be a bit challenging at times, although this is not a product of the product so to speak, more the nature of working with a large organization.
Power BI is particularly well suited for environments with disparate data sources that need to be presented logically and thoughtfully across systems and analytical engines.

Power BI is less appropriate when a platform (ERP for example) may have native, out of the box, robust reporting, that is directly tied to the data models in the application.
