Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft SQL Server

Microsoft SQL Server supports the databases for our primary accounting system (MS Dynamics GP). This avoids us using much less efficient flat files or less compliant software from, for example, open source solutions.

Pros

  • Transaction oriented
  • Low resource useage
  • Universal compatibility

Cons

  • Query interface
  • Management interface
  • Logging
  • Lowered processing and development time
  • Increased costs due to licensing vs open source
  • Increased adoption amongst industry products
The graphic user interfaces could use a lot of work. They are outdated and clunky and really need a facelift. Otherwise, the instruction set is reasonably good and it is scriptable which is very useful.
Microsoft SQL Server is faster and more compatible, but it does cost more, so you're paying for those features. I use the others in many other places where critical transaction processing time and compatibility aren't of great concern.

Do you think Microsoft SQL Server delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft SQL Server's feature set?

Yes

Did Microsoft SQL Server live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Microsoft SQL Server go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft SQL Server again?

Yes

Support for any data set that has relational or repetitive data is a good place for Microsoft SQL Server. It scales well and has the instructions to do almost anything you need it to do. It is also extremely scriptable.
