Miro is currently unchallenged but Figma is creating competition.
Overall Satisfaction with Miro
I use Miro for my studies in industrial design and my related work in various design studios and companies. For me, Miro is a great way to collaborate on projects, especially during project preparation, and to share ideas, results, and so on. I also use Miro in the design phase for mood boards, initial concepts, and so forth. It's useful throughout the work process, and I sometimes use it for short presentations, particularly at the beginning. When I'm working alone, I primarily use Miro to store files, articles, and data that I need for the project.
Pros
- Shared function, working with colleagues works well.
- Navigation, Account Management, Mobile App and Desktop works smooth together.
- Create short presentations is quite useful and works fine for me and the team.
Cons
- As a designer, I miss some more creative features. I can't even get really into designing small things (like paths). Many of my colleagues have already switched to the Figma board because it is possible there.
- Things often get lost in the workflow, especially in teams. Working on the same file often leads to misunderstandings and can be frustrating. For example, if text is accidentally deleted and cannot be recovered, or if images become distorted.
- The scale on the board is missing, which often leads to size differences.
- The way we work remotely as a team has changed significantly with Miro.
- Includes efficiency as well as productivity.
- All in all I can say that Miro doubled the time we spend during the first project steps.
Definitely the post-it function. I really like having an online version of this method with Miro. Also, the presentation mode is useful for me when pitching results to the team, without preparing an extra presentation. Also, the mindmap function is cool and often useful. I don't use other functions that often.
It affected me by making me use PowerPoint less often. Since AI tools are more common, I have to admit that I use them more often than Miro for research. They are like a smart "remembering" Miro board that also generates information for me.
I have to admit here that I am currently switching to Figma for my single projects. I also did Group Projects there, but I do think that Miro works better in Groups. For me personally, Figma is better for working directly in final forms and ideation. On top, there's the possibility to create functional prototypes in Figma, which is great, but I don't really use that.
