Nginx is the web server you’re looking for at the right price
Overall Satisfaction with Nginx
We use Nginx for all of our web services, whether it be straight up websites or applications. It’s open source (free), but so easy to implement while being incredibly powerful.
Pros
- Nginx can be set up to serve up a web site in minutes.
- Nginx is easily customizable. You can easily serve over HTTPS, have custom directories, or proxy upstream servers.
- Nginx has great support and documentation, even for the free version.
Cons
- I had some initial problems proxying PHP.
- It’s easy to over complicate your setup.
- Like many applications, some of the error codes can be pretty ambiguous.
- Having such a powerful open source solution allows us a lot of versatility we wouldn’t have otherwise.
- Nginx’s versatility allows us to be really efficient, since we can use one well known tool for multiple solutions.
Nginx is way easier to configure and runs better than Microsoft’s offering, in my opinion, and I’ll take it over Apache for its simplicity.
