Overall Satisfaction with OpenText MBPM (formerly Metastorm)

OpenText MBPM was used for mapping business processes. It was used to identify and quantify the impact of business process change alternatives and connected business capabilities with IT systems.

Pros

  • Diagnoses and highlights errors and inconsistencies for correction based on BPMN standards.
  • Support different views of the process from Swimlane perspective, system interactions, process to process dependency, process to attributes, process to rules.
  • Able to publish processes per custom defined templates or formats on the fly.
  • Changes to a common element are automatically made to every use of that element on all diagrams (insert, update, delete).

Cons

  • Be able to perform a Google type search as a user type name in text field.
  • Auto creation of next activities in model viewer to quickly generate happy path scenario.
  • Community Collaboration - Support of external process participants (ex: business partners) that have limited or no IT infrastructure, social process communities such as Salesforce.
  • Positive: Able to provide scalability from capabilities to processes and applications for each business domains that allowed decommission of legacy unused applications and to eliminate waste and overhead cost.
Metastorm was used to meet specific client needs. Ease of use and navigation was one big factor
OpenText MBPM is well suited for rapid application development where process workflows are well designed in a detailed environment. A servicing organization could benefit from being able to manage and design complex case management processes and applications. It is not suited for the automotive industry where complex custom engineering processes exist within product engineering (vehicle) and manufacturing plants.
