Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write

We use Read&Write in our school district to help students identified in our special education program. They have built in reading support on multiple platforms and get suggestions for improving their writing. Student use this application on their school-issued Chromebooks. This provides accommodations on all devices and allows students access to reading support in a variety of settings. Students have expressed how helpful this tool has been in completing school assignments.

Pros

  • Text reading support at school and at home
  • Support in completing assignments without a teacher or para
  • Works on multiple devices and is available to all students

Cons

  • Make it more user-friendly
  • Allow more voice options for speed and cadence
  • Bluetooth capability for hearing impaired students
  • In the school setting: Improved student outcomes
  • Inclusion in core classes has improved
  • Allows more student independence
Read&Write allows students to have support in many applications at the schools in our district. It is used most often at the middle school and high school levels. I wish more teachers would integrate it into their classes, so students would utilize it. Reading levels are low in most of our district, so this helps students be more successful in areas where they were lost.
All of our high school special education students have had a significant impact in their general education inclusion courses. Course-specific vocabulary and lengthy reading passages were previously ignored when a student was frustrated, but now they can power through and get support at school and at home. It has also spared students who struggle with embarrassment when asking a teacher or paraprofessional for help.

Yes

Would you buy Read&Write again?

Yes

All students need support at times, so it is a useful tool in the general education and special education settings. Students with reading/writing disabilities probably benefit the most from this application. This has been helpful in novel reading, classes with harder vocabulary, and in science and social studies that use unfamiliar words.
